The Recovery Support Advocate will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver exemplary care while embracing an innovative mindset. This role is essential in promoting a comprehensive approach to treatment and combating stigma associated with addiction. The Recovery Support Advocate will thrive in dynamic environments, integrating leading care delivery practices with advanced technological solutions to engage team members, enhance patient outcomes, and optimize resource utilization.

As a person with lived experience, the Recovery Support Advocate plays a crucial role in fostering resilience, recovery, self-advocacy, and skill development among clients. This position involves supporting individuals and families in navigating complex systems, addressing their needs, and encouraging recovery, resilience, and overall wellness.

The Recovery Support Advocate is an integral part of the care team, operating under the direct supervision of the Clinical Supervisor. Responsibilities include demonstrating proficiency in personal recovery and coping strategies, advocating for clients, and providing essential information about peer support services. The Recovery Support Advocate will engage in a variety of activities aimed at helping clients regain independence and take ownership of their recovery journey. Services will be delivered in various community settings, including other organizations and client homes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver Peer Support services to facilitate clinical care through in-person meetings, phone calls, telehealth sessions, and case conferences.
  • Assist clients in identifying their personal aspirations, strengths, and challenges related to recovery, promoting self-advocacy by helping them articulate their needs and goals.
  • Identify obstacles to full engagement with community resources and employ creative problem-solving to devise strategies for overcoming these challenges.
  • Proactively connect clients with community resources that align with their interests and goals, collaborating with team members from various disciplines to ensure appropriate service linkages.
  • Provide encouragement and hope, highlighting opportunities for involvement in community activities such as work, education, relationships, and hobbies.
  • Educate clients about recovery at every stage of their journey, from initial engagement to long-term maintenance.
  • Complete all necessary documentation within specified timeframes.
  • Coordinate caseload management under the guidance of the assigned care coordinator and provide transportation for clients as needed.
  • Ensure documentation complies with regulatory and agency standards, following best practices.
  • Utilize Electronic Medical Records to complete documentation promptly.
  • Participate in required meetings, including supervision sessions, treatment team discussions, training, and community events.
  • Depending on qualifications, may provide clinical supervision to peers seeking certification in recovery support.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities; excellent teamwork and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with community agencies and resources.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including experience with electronic health record systems.

Education and Experience Requirements

Minimum:

  • Must have personal experience with substance use disorders or mental health challenges and be in recovery.
  • Must meet state requirements for Certified Peer Recovery Supporter, including registration as a Certified Peer Recovery Supporter.

Preferred:

  • Active involvement in relevant professional networks and ongoing community engagement is preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Work Setting: Indoor, climate-controlled environment.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to sit and stand for extended periods, perform repetitive motions, and handle objects. May require lifting up to 10 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Communication: Interaction with others through various mediums, including email, in-person discussions, public speaking, and video conferencing.
