Position Summary

The Engineering Technician works under general supervision to provide technical, analytical and administrative support to the engineering staff.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities

  • Gather, maintain and analyze basic data and reporting from various internal systems including Aries, SAP, AVM, and third party well data including state regulatory and production data.
  • Provide supporting data via research from public sources such as IHS and regulatory agencies.
  • Generate monthly reports based on standard procedures to provide project performance tracking.
  • Assist department members in the preparation of technical reports, presentations and backup data required in project evaluation.
  • Perform basic calculations and preliminary analyses of data in support of engineering studies.
  • Provide basic user support for software systems to technical support and professional personnel when needed.
  • Duties may vary for discipline specific technicians and may include:
  • Maintenance: JOYN/eMaint administrator and task assignment responsibilities, support for LDAR and emissions monitoring and reporting, inventory management and material transfer processes, expense estimation and tracking
  • Conduct business safely and with the highest ethical standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

General Knowledge and Skills

Basic knowledge of own discipline. Participates in needed training/courses/workshops/seminars to grow knowledge and skills.

Computer/Software Applications

Basic level of skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office. Basic knowledge of the following discipline specific programs:

  • Maintenance: AFE Navigator, eMaint, JOYN, SCADA

Technical skills that allow easy adaptation to other related applications (AVM, SAP, Spotfire).

Numeric and Analysis

Basic numeric and analytical skills. Ability to mine moderate sized data sets, transpose values, and recognize patterns and inconsistencies.

Applies knowledge, training and experience to identify and solve problems. Evaluates and recommends solutions to business and technical problems of moderate complexity based on functional expertise, industry experience, and discussion with peers.

Plans work with direction from supervisor. Asks questions and actively seeks to increase own knowledge and contributions. Demonstrates drive, enthusiasm and willingness to learn. Basic organization and time management skills.

Basic understanding of established policies, standards, and practices. Basic understanding of business drivers, performance measures and financial results.

Ability to build and maintain relationships with team members and outside departments. Collaborates with, and is effective in, a multi-disciplinary team environment to produce integrated products and results.

Communication / Presentation

Basic written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Listens carefully to instructions and requests clarification when necessary. Effectively communicates results of technical work to supervisor and peers.

Continues to develop understanding of industry terminology and technical knowledge. Shows initiative to increase knowledge of own function and the company. Seeks out mentor(s) for technical and career guidance. Asks questions; shares knowledge.

Maintains high standards of professional conduct and business ethics. Conducts himself/herself within the principles of SM's core values and Storyboard. Practices all safety standards and policies.

Role-Specific Technical Knowledge & Skills

Basic knowledge of the industry and operations. Basic knowledge of the following discipline specific skills:

  • Maintenance: general knowledge of corrective action work orders, preventative maintenance programs, LDAR and other emissions detection methods, expense management, estimation and invoicing

Education

Technical associate degree or related experience required. Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field preferred.

Typical Experience

Minimum of 2 years of experience in related field or industry.
