Automation I&E Technician

The Instrumentation & Electrical Technician Level I & II (I&E Tech) is based out of Midland Texas. This is a Monday through Friday position with on-call responsibilities nights and weekends.

This is a great opportunity if you are an experienced I&E Technician, Controls Technician, Instrumentation Technician (E&I Tech), Engineer, Electric Technician, Compression Technician, Instruments and Electric Tech, Automation Technician or similar. Experience working with equipment for Engines and Compressors. Pay will be based on experience.

- The I&E Technician I position typically have 1-3 years of directly related work experience. The I&E Technician I class is distinguished from the II level by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the II level. Incumbents work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks, progressing to general supervision as procedures and processes of assigned area of responsibility are learned.

- The I&E Technician II is distinguished from the I level by the assignment of the full range of duties, with only occasional instruction or assistance needed as new, unusual or unique situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement or by experience from the I level once the incumbent meets the qualification standards of the II level, demonstrates an ability to perform the full scope of the work, and meets all other performance standards. 3-6 years of directly related work experience.

I&E Primary Purpose:

Implements and maintains electrical power circuits and equipment. Maintains control and automation systems, electronic and pneumatic equipment used in pipeline applications, compressor stations, pump stations, plant operations and measurement facilities.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Duties include installing, inspecting, maintaining, operating, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating various mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical and electronic equipment. Along with completing all appropriate documentation associated with the duties.
• Perform preventative maintenance checks on pumps, compressors, drivers, and auxiliary equipment.
• Performs Inspection and Maintenance (I&M) checks on all control systems.
• Identify, report, and correct safety and environmental concerns.
• Perform all work in compliance with Company standards, procedures, and regulatory and tariff requirements.
• Demonstrate performance toward operational excellence.
• Mentor fellow employees when the opportunity presents itself.
• Maintain electrical switch gear and power distribution.
• Responsible for the general upkeep and maintenance of all facilities and equipment as needed.
• Oversee the construction and/or maintenance activities performed by third parties.
• Stay up to date on Operations Qualifications and required training.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Experience in operating and maintaining Gas Engines and compressors.
• Knowledge and experience in safe handling practices of flammable gases, liquids and high-pressure systems.
• Knowledge and experience with electronic equipment, high pressure gas, processing equipment, pumps and reciprocating or gas turbine engines and compressors. Knowledge and experience working with equipment manufactured by Caterpillar, Ariel is a plus.
• Knowledge of Wonderware software.
• Knowledge of Allen Bradley hardware and software.
• Must respond to, and address, callouts and emergencies (within 1 hour) during and after regular business hours including after dark hours, which require carrying a communication device.
• Job planning and prioritizing.
• Intermediate computer skills (knowledge of MS Office, operating systems, company software).
• Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals) Good verbal and written communication skills.

Qualification Requirements

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED. Preferred a two-year associate degree/technical degree or equivalent work experience in the Oil, Fuel, or Automation industry.

Specific Knowledge and Experience:

• Experience Levels

o Level One I&E Technician will have 1-3 years of experience as an I&E Technician in the Oil or Fuel Services industries.

o Level Two I&E Technician will have 3-6 years of experience as an I&E Technician in the Oil or Fuel Services industries.

• Working knowledge of National Electric Codes
• Proficient with electronic test instruments
• Knowledge of process controls and gas processing fundamentals
• Knowledge and experience preparing drawings of electrical circuits
• Knowledge and experience reading and interpreting electrical and Mechanical blueprints and diagrams
• Knowledge and experience applying and interpreting results from common electrical measurement instruments (voltmeter, ammeter, ohmmeter, oscilloscope, etc.)
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications such as Excel & Word.
• Valid Driver's license.
• Must live within a 1-hour response/travel time to the Midland, TX facility.
• Overtime may be required and is anticipated.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.
• May be required to achieve and maintain certifications as required to perform job duties.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to walk in uneven, slippery, and muddy conditions.
• Ability to work out of doors in all environmental conditions.
• Must be able to withstand extreme weather conditions
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds in awkward positions, and ability to lift 50 pounds from floor to waist (occasional)
• May work in low-lit areas
• Be available for shift work when applicable.
• Worker will be subject to other physical activities required, to include climbing, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions.
