Position Summary

HMONO is seeking a dedicated and experienced Health Enhancement Program Manager to join our team. This unique role involves overseeing and blending traditional Hawaiian healing programs with health education programs and initiatives to create a holistic approach to community health and wellness.

This role frequently involves working and being available on weekends and evenings without prior notice, as well as inter-island travel to engage in training and development initiatives aligned with or aimed at enhancing the mission of Hui Mālama Ola Nā ʻŌiwi.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Program Integration: Craft and initiate groundbreaking initiatives that harmonize ancient Hawaiian wisdom and practices with contemporary health knowledge, specifically tailored to nurture the well-being and meet the unique needs of the Native Hawaiian community.
  2. Community Collaboration: Work hand-in-hand with traditional healers, cultural experts, and community leaders, to ensure our programs are culturally relevant and respectful.
  3. Resource Allocation: Manage program budgets and allocate resources effectively to ensure the successful execution of health education and traditional healing initiatives.
  4. Team Leadership: Lead and supervise a professional team of health educators, traditional healers, and coordinators, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
  5. Compliance: Ensure compliance with public health laws, rules, and regulations, while also respecting and integrating traditional healing practices into program offerings.
  6. Reporting: Produce clear and comprehensive reports and documents to track program progress, outcomes, and cultural impact.
  7. Strategic Planning: Contribute to the strategic planning process for HMONO's public health programs and traditional healing initiatives, including participation in meetings and discussions.

Knowledge and Abilities Required

  1. Cultural Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of Native Hawaiian culture, including traditional healing practices, language, and protocols. The ability to integrate these elements respectfully into modern health programs.
  2. Health Program Management: Strong background in designing, implementing, and evaluating health education programs. Includes the ability to blend traditional and modern health practices in a meaningful way that respects cultural heritage and meets community health needs.
  3. Leadership and Supervision: Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and manage a diverse team of professionals. This includes providing mentorship, conducting performance evaluations, and fostering a supportive and productive work environment.
  4. Strategic Thinking and Planning: Ability to contribute to strategic planning processes and to develop innovative solutions to complex health challenges. This includes setting clear goals, budgeting, and resource allocation to maximize program impact.
  5. Community Engagement and Collaboration: Strong skills in building and maintaining relationships with community members, leaders, and other stakeholders. Ability to engage in meaningful dialogues, gather community input, and ensure program relevance and respect for cultural sensitivities.
  6. Compliance and Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with public health laws, regulations, and best practices. This includes integrating traditional healing practices in a way that complies with legal standards and ethical considerations.
  7. Communication Skills: Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear and comprehensive reports, present findings and strategies to various audiences, and facilitate open and effective communication within the team and with the community.
  8. Adaptability and Flexibility: Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and to travel inter-island as required for program development and community engagement activities.
  9. Technical Proficiency: Competence in using technology and software for program management, reporting, and communication. This includes data management systems, health informatics, and digital communication tools to enhance program delivery and evaluation.
  10. Commitment to Continuous Learning: Ongoing commitment to personal and professional growth, particularly in areas relevant to Native Hawaiian health, traditional healing practices, and modern health education methodologies.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Education/Experience: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field is preferred. However, equivalent professional experience in social work, public health, traditional healing, or a related field may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement. A minimum of 3.5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in social work, public health, traditional healing, or a related field is essential.
  2. Supervisory Experience: At least 2 years of supervisory experience, including planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating the work of a professional staff.
  3. Managerial Skills: Demonstrated managerial aptitude through the successful coordination of activities within time, resource, and budgetary limitations.
  4. Communication Skills: Strong communication skills are necessary, including the ability to collaborate effectively with traditional healers and community members.

    5. COVID-19 vaccination
