New England Cancer Specialist is looking for a Clinical Director for our Scarborough office. The Clinic Director position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of assigned NECS clinics. This position directly supervises nurses, medical assistants, patient care coordinators and receptionists, but may also supervise and/or provide indirect supervisory support for other assigned support personnel at the NECS site. The responsibilities of the Clinic Director include maintaining fiscal accountability, quality and regulatory standards, maintaining a high level of patient/family centered care and service, patient and staff satisfaction, program development and managing and developing teams. This role also acts as a liaison with affiliated hospitals as needed. The Clinic Director regularly communicates with Senior Leadership and Site Lead Physicians.

NECS is a private medical practice composed of 18 oncologists and hematologists serving the region from six separate locations in Maine and New Hampshire. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coaches and leads healthcare team members in the performance of patient care procedures and processes with a focus on safety and competence. Provides coaching, counseling and discipline as needed.
  • Approves and maintains timecards for direct reports.
  • Ensures the clinic is appropriately staffed at all times.
  • Delegates to and supports clinic leads in areas of responsibility.
  • Interviews job applicants, makes hiring recommendations, and helps coordinate new hire orientation, ensuring all necessary training is completed.
  • Ensures that resources, supplies, and materials are available for patient care.
  • Assists in the development of department/division goals and works to achieve those related to the Clinic, Administrative and Treatment areas.
  • Role models for staff incorporating organizational initiatives and adapting to changes in clinical care, research and patient safety.
  • Coordinates & participates in continuing education programs and in-services, national and regional professional organizations and community sponsored programs specific to Oncology and Hematology.
  • Maintains patient care standards and assures that patient care functions, such as assessment, treatment and documentation are completed safely and effectively and in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Initiates and documents appropriate interventions; evaluates and records patient/family responses within practice protocol.
  • Incorporates evidence-based research into clinical practice to improve patient experience.
  • Ensures that clinical operations follow NECS continuity guidelines and procedures and, the smooth execution of all practice nursing policies, procedures and systems.
  • Coordinates, integrates, and completes compliance reviews of new clinical SOP's as set forth by Leadership within NECS.
  • The Clinic Director is the primary contact for clinic improvement initiatives including facility related issues.
  • Maintains open and effective communication with all providers, employees and vendors.
  • Works collaboratively with team members, team leads and other departments.
  • Partners with outside healthcare partners (MMC, SMMC, PRH, etc.) as needed to support practice initiatives and strategic objectives.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing and Master's degree in Nursing, healthcare administration, business administration or a relevant field of study required.
  • 5 or more years nursing experience working in an oncology setting.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maine and/or New Hampshire.
  • OCN Certification preferred, or ability to obtain OCN Certification within 12 months of staring in the position.
  • Previous management, leadership and collaborative experience.
  • Strong business acumen and communication.
