Qualifications:

  • High school graduate
  • At least 18 years of age
  • *must be willing to begin the ECE Initial Certificate *preferred candidates will already have the initial certificate*
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified
  • Must have completed Child Care Basics (30 hour course) before hire
  • At least 1 year experience caring for children under the age of 3 years old

Job Description:

This position serves at a drop in child care facility serving the children of veterans so that veterans can attend their VA clinic appointments. Children being cared for range in age from 6 weeks old up to 12 years old, and up to 18 years of age for children with disabilities. The childcare attendant will act as an assistant teacher for the VA Kids Care Program, and is responsible for following and enforcing all regulations, standard operating procedures, and ensuring children are engaged, safe, and cared for. The childcare attendant will be responsible for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all children in care, to include:

  • Checking children in and out of the facility
  • Following state-respective childcare ratios
  • Ensuring the safety and welfare of children, to include awareness of allergies, diaper changes, basic first aide, child engagement, and developmentally appropriate practices within a child care facility.
  • Facility cleanliness and sanitization
  • Following all safety and security protocols, and confidentiality


Hours: 21-27.5 hours per week. The following are the differing part time shifts available:

  • 7:30am - 1pm Monday-Friday
  • 12pm - 5:15pm Monday-Friday
  • 1pm - 5:15pm Monday-Friday
