Job DescriptionJob DescriptionESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Career/Employment Specialist serves as an instructional support staff member responsible for providing career counseling to current and prospective students and alumni as well as establishing and maintaining relationships with employers and community organizations to match qualified students with employment opportunities. Coordinates day-to-day activities such as student support, database/records management, posting job opportunities, and tracking placement data. This job requires working knowledge of local labor market information and trends and effective techniques for developing relationships with potential employers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Provide career development services to students. Coach students and alumni on personalized job search strategies and assist with resume writing and interview skills in individual personalized meetings. Conduct training/workshops/presentations on career development activities such as resume/cover letter writing and mock interviews.
  2. Provide career connections. Develop and maintain relationships with potential employers to connect students to possible internships, externships, and job opportunities. Coordinate on campus job and internship fairs. Identify, secure, and coordinate internships and externships for students. Represent the college at community events and job/career fairs. Promote career services to students. Conduct monthly placement calls and follow-ups with students and alumni.
  3. Provide database/records management. Collect student data upon graduation, transfer, and job placement and enter data into the SIS at least weekly.  Serve as custodian of all student records related to employment and other career services activities.
  4. Provide instructional/collegial support. Conduct graduate exit interviews, graduate follow-up surveys, and employer follow-up surveys. Assist faculty with employment verification forms and occupational advisory committee membership. Serve on college committees to ensure course programming aligns with employer expectations. Assist in the evaluation of career services plans and procedures. Assist faculty with securing clinical sites and contractual agreements for clinical rotations. Assist with visiting sites where students receive clinical experience to assure adequacy of instruction and record keeping.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  1. Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with staff, students, and community members.
  2. Working knowledge of local employers, employment and training opportunities, as well as labor market information and trends.
  3. Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions, and other outcomes.
  4. Must have excellent organizational skills and be able to complete projects efficiently and independently.
  5. Must be proficient in operating a computer and have experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and other social media applications. Excellent communication and human relations skills; aptitude for public speaking.
  6. Excellent organizational skills including prioritization of work.
  7. Understanding of the skills/requirements needed in the college’s programs and occupational fields.
  8. Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly in English.
  9. Must be able to occasionally work long or extended hours, including weekends.
  10. Must be able to function in a hectic work environment with occasional periods of high stress.
  11. Must maintain strict confidentiality of all information.
  12. Ability to analyze and present data and program information, orally and in writing and in non-technical language.
REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Social Services, Social Sciences, Education, Human Resources or another related field.
  2. Three years of professional experience in project management, project planning, training and workforce development, or program development.
  3. Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  4. Must be able to work well, both independently and as part of a team.
  5. Must provide own transportation.
  6. Must be able to clear DMV check.
  7. Must possess valid driver’s license and maintain current vehicle registration, liability insurance and insurance and vehicle inspection.
