We are searching for a full-time Medical Billing / Collection Specialist to work for a surgical center in New Orleans. This position is strictly in the office and would not have the possibility of being remote or hybrid.

The Medical Billing / Collection Specialist is responsible for assisting patients by communicating with insurance payors via various methods (i.e. telephone, fax, internet) to determine eligible benefits and acquiring Pre-Certification(s) when deemed necessary by the insurance payor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Daily eligibility/benefits verification for clinic/hospital services
  • Process Insurance Benefit verifications
  • Initiate insurance authorizations
  • Obtain pre-authorizations for surgery from insurance carriers.
  • Reviewing patient accounts for collections according to practice policy
  • Thorough understanding of payer contracts
  • Reviewing and working claims for denials, appeals, holds, etc., to ensure prompt payment and timely filing is not an issue
  • Act as backup to the other roles within the billing department- A/R representatives and charge entry coordinator.
  • Data entry
  • Answer multi-phone lines
  • Cross trains in other areas

Requirements:

  • At least 2 of collections experience in a hospital or medical office setting
  • Experience with Blue Cross Blue Shield billing
