Material Handler Pay:
  • 1st Shift 7:00 am - 3:10 pm - $ 19.00

Material Handler Job Summary: Loads, unloads, moves, and delivers components and supplies to and from trucks, designated areas, or manufacturing lines either manually or with powered equipment. Scans and transfers inventory in the computer system
Material Handler Essential Responsibilities (Tasks)
  • Safely lifts, moves, unloads, and stacks material and supplies with electric or liquefied- gas-powered industrial equipment such as a walkie, ball cart, reach truck, stacker, stand-up, or sit-down truck (fork-lift).
  • Visually check all incoming material, outgoing finished product, and their packaging (including skids) for damage. All suspected damage must be reported in writing.
  • Weighs materials or products and records weight on tags, labels, or production schedules.
  • Properly secure loads with seat belts or straps before moving with powered industrial trucks.
  • Read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments or material or equipment needs.
  • Attach identifying tags to containers or mark them with identifying information.
  • Positions forks, lifting platforms, or other lifting devices under, over, or around loaded pallets, skids, boxes, products, or materials and transport load to designated areas.
  • Install protective devices, such as bracing, padding, or strapping, to prevent shifting or damage to items being transported.
  • Inventories materials on the work floor, and supplies workers with materials as needed.
  • Based on the production schedule and needs on the production floor, the Material Handler will deliver components and other supplies to the appropriate place in a safe and timely manner.
  • Verifies material in the warehouse is OK or approved to use before pulling it from skids.
  • Records inventory transactions using the Bar Code Inventory system.
  • Performs routine inspection and refueling on powered industrial trucks such as charging batteries or replacing liquefied gas tanks.
  • Apply principles of 5S to assigned areas so everything is organized, clean, and safe.
  • Follow all company rules and regulations related to environmental, health, and safety.
  • This list is not all-inclusive; other job-related tasks may be assigned.


Material Handler Knowledge:

  • General knowledge of material handling, inventory, and quality control practices such as FIFO and lot traceability.
  • Read, write, and verbally communicate in English to convey information effectively so others will understand.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, and decimals.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote safety, health, and environment protection practices within the workplace.

Material Handler Skills and Abilities:
  • Skilled at driving powered industrial trucks by moving levers and pressing pedals.
  • Physically move objects safely by using proper lifting techniques.
  • Ability to follow instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Apply common sense to carry out detailed but uninvolved instructions.
  • Capacity to get work done in a timely fashion with little or no supervision
  • Arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern.
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks at the same time.
  • Detailed and thorough in completing work tasks.
  • Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong, and take the initiative to act quickly and appropriately.
  • Able to consistently meet job attendance requirements.

Tools and equipment used in this position:

  • Handheld scanner
  • Manual pallet jack
  • Wrapping machinery: Banding and shrink-wrapping machines
  • Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT) — Lift truck, Reach truck, Stacker, Stand-up, powered pallet jack (Walkie), and Ball cart

The technology used in this position:

  • Electronic mail software: Lotus Notes
  • Inventory tracking software (JDE or Syteline)
  • Hand-held barcode scanner

Education, Training, and Experience

  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
  • A minimum of 1 year of driving a forklift truck is desired.
  • Certification in operating a forklift is preferred.

Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts; vapors or airborne particles; chemicals, vibration, and loud noises.
  • Safety shoes, safety glasses, and bump caps must be worn on the production floor for this position. Hearing protection is encouraged and may be required in specific areas. Other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required.
  • Workweek is a minimum of 40 hours. Based on business needs, overtime is required.
  • Regularly stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear
  • Able to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting or standing
  • Use hands and arms in handling, positioning, and moving materials and things
  • Capacity to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects
  • Regularly lift and /or move up to 15 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Able to see details at a distance or at close range (a few feet)
  • Ability to judge which of several objects is closer or farther away, and judge the distance between you and an object
  • The pace of work is steady and fast.
