Hydrogeologist – Michigan


We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Hydrogeologist to join our Natural Resources team to assist project managers with natural resource-based projects involving planning, designing, and permitting for hydrogeologic investigations. The ideal candidate will be located in Michigan. Successful candidates must be highly organized, motivated to learn, and able to navigate a variety of complex projects.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform fieldwork, planning, scheduling, and technical support for services related to hydrogeologic investigations, groundwater and soil sampling, permit compliance, regulatory support and other environmental surveys
  • Travel, including multiple days, in-and-out-of-state overnight travel, is expected for this position
  • Provide task assistance to project managers
  • Meet deliverable schedules, schedule staff for projects and adhere to budgets
  • Support project pursuits through proposal development and collaboration
  • Stay current with federal and regional regulations, develop agency relationships, and develop the ability to represent ECT as a professional expert
  • Participate in team building including internal training, quality review and mentorship
  • Work independently, problem solve, navigate, and learn new and challenging project tasks
  • Collaborate with the larger team to schedule project tasks
  • Maintain a utilization of 85%
  • Foster an environment emphasizing safety awareness and the safe performance of your work while contributing to a positive, professional environment

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology (or similar) with 2-5 years relevant work experience
  • Experience related to hydrogeologic investigations, soil and groundwater sampling, aquifer characterization, pump testing, soil classification, geochemical analysis, and state and federal environmental permitting experience required
  • Renewable energy experience is a plus
  • Previous consulting experience preferred
  • Experience in state and federal permitting desired
  • Strong technical writing skills and QA/QC of data and reporting experience required

Job Essentials:

  • Valid Driver's license with clean driving record
  • Must be self-motivated with sound professional judgement; able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and independently with little direct supervision
  • Primary duties are located within an office or remote office environment with occasional to frequent fieldwork
  • Attention to detail, excellent verbal and technical written communication skills
  • Flexible and able to juggle multiple projects and changing priorities without missing deadlines or losing sight of project goals
  • Positive attitude, enthusiasm, and desire to learn
