Position: Peer Specialist

Reports to: Program Director

Program/Department: Youth Stand United

Hours: Part Time - 15 hours per week Monday, Tuesday Friday, Schedule to be determined

Salary Range: - $19.50 - $19.50

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary:

Peer Educators are employed to provide youth with peer and community support, and are advocates within the program as well as the community. The Peer Educator models professional behavior in the workplace, assists with the coordination of social skills activities, acts as a mentor, provides peer support and advocacy. The Peer Educator also assists with the coordination and planning of leisure activities, workshops, groups and career clubs.

Responsibilities:

Peer Educators will plan and organize events to empower, educate, and support youth in the Youth Stand United program (YSU)

Work as part of a team along with the Case Manager and Vocational Coordinator to help youth attain her/his GED and vocational goals

Share personal knowledge, insight, and experience about programs and resources that may be of support to youth in increasing needed skills

Mentor youth in developing positive peer, family and community relationships

Assist in organization and implementation of social, recreational and educational programs and events for youth

Execute daily community outreach to promote the program and increase enrollment

Provide outreach to youth involved in the program to maintain retention

Represent youth, program, and agency at City and Statewide gatherings around issues relevant to youth

Complete all paperwork in a timely and professional manner in compliance with program regulations

Follow all program and agency requirements as needed

· Participate in agency wide groups and meetings as required

· Assist with development of funding proposals as needed

· Other tasks may be required.

Qualifications:

Must have a High School Diploma or GED/HSE. Some Colleges preferred. Bi-Lingual a plus

Must be a young adult who has an understanding of emotional and/or behavioral challenges as well as an understanding of mental health providers or programs.
