The Acacia Center for Justice (“Acacia”) provides legal support and representation to immigrants facing deportation through the development, coordination, and management of national networks of legal services providers serving immigrants across the country. Acacia’s goals are twofold: to support immigrant legal services and defense networks to provide exceptional legal services to immigrants; and to advocate for the expansion of these programs and the infrastructure critical to guaranteeing immigrants access to justice, fairness, and freedom. Acacia ensures accountable, independent, zealous, and person-centered legal services and representation to protect the rights of all immigrants.

Job Summary:

As a Business Analyst at Acacia Center for Justice, you will play a critical role in bridging the gap between business needs and technology solutions. Working within the Information Technology + Security Department, you will collaborate closely with stakeholders across the organization to collect, analyze, and document business requirements for IT projects. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that technology initiatives align with the strategic objectives of Acacia, with a focus on promoting justice and equity in our communities. By conducting thorough business process analysis, developing comprehensive specifications, and facilitating effective communication between business users and technical teams, you will contribute to the successful delivery of IT projects that drive positive impact and transformation within the organization. This role serves as a key enabler of innovation and efficiency, empowering Acacia to leverage technology as a strategic asset in advancing its mission of promoting justice and equality for all.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document business requirements for IT projects.
  • Conduct business process analysis to identify areas for improvement and optimization.
  • Develop comprehensive business and functional specifications, use cases, and process flows.
  • Assist in translating business requirements into actionable technical specifications.
  • Support the Project and Portfolio Manager in defining project scope, objectives, and timelines.
  • Create project plans, work breakdown structures (WBS), and resource allocation schedules.
  • Track project progress, identify risks and issues, and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between IT teams, business stakeholders, and external vendors.
  • Provide regular updates to stakeholders on project status, risks, and issues.
  • Serve as a liaison between business users and technical teams, ensuring alignment of expectations.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of IT processes and methodologies within the organization.

Required Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate business needs into technical requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in business analysis tools and techniques, such as requirement elicitation and process modeling.
  • Experience with project management methodologies and project management tools (e.g., Click Up, Slack, Microsoft Applications).
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives.
  • Understanding of the justice or nonprofit sector (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Certification in business analysis (e.g., CBAP, CCBA) and/or project management (e.g., PMP, CAPM) is a plus.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies and methodologies.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: 

  • Familiarity with the justice or nonprofit sector.
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies and community organizations.
  • Knowledge of advanced business analysis techniques such as data analytics or predictive modeling.
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes and methodologies.
  • Experience with tools for process modeling and documentation (e.g., Visio, Lucidchart).
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Additional certifications in relevant areas such as cybersecurity, data analysis, or project management.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field is preferred.
  • Relevant professional certifications in business analysis or project management (e.g., CBAP, PMP) may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a business analyst role, preferably in the IT sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in gathering and analyzing business requirements and translating them into technical specifications.
  • Experience working in the justice or nonprofit sector is a plus but not required.
  • Experience working with project management application and tools to manage and track projects.

Compensation and Benefits:

Acacia has established an internal compensation philosophy that centers equity and pay transparency. The salary for this position is set at $65,000. The salary listed is just one component of Acacia’s total compensation package for employees. Supporting Acacia staff—both personally and professionally—is our priority.
