We are seeking therapeutic aides to work in city schools for the new school year.
Therapeutic aide helps students to maintain adequate behavior by assisting with the
implantation of the Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) / Behavior intervention Plan (BIP),
Aides also help students meet the academic goals set in their IEP.
Support students in achieving academic success, including those who may display
disruptive behavior, with a focus on behavior management and physical intervention if
necessary (training provided upon hire).
Provide personal care, facilitate social integration, and prioritize health and safety
measures for students.
Helps students when needed with their clothing, snack time routines, and, when
required, toileting activities.
Collaborate related service staff, behavior supervisors/directors, and other team
members.
Maintain professionalism in behavior and speech, setting a positive example through
attire, punctuality, and attendance.
Assist with transportation needs, serving as an aide when required (bus support).
Offer support to teachers in classroom organization, management, and instructional
strategies during in-person instruction.
Be able to move easily around the classroom and school environment.
Monitor student behavior during classroom sessions, providing redirection and support
for students needing remediation or intervention.
Aid in student assessment by collecting data and sharing observations with teachers.
Assist with standardized testing procedures according to state and local policies.
Distribute food, supplies, materials, and technology as needed.
Supervise student movement within the school environment, ensuring adherence to
safety protocols.
Assist with classroom and cafeteria cleanup to maintain sanitation standards.
Facilitate safe transitions of students between locations within the school under the
guidance of administrators and staff.
Engage in professional development opportunities in person.
Maintain proactive communication with teachers regarding student issues and parental
conversations.
Demonstrate prompt, regular attendance in person and be available to work on-site
during regular business hours.
Perform additional duties as assigned by appropriate administrators or their
representatives.
Must be physically able to restrain students, when appropriate, in compliance
with accepted district or school procedures. Must be physically able to lift, or
assist in lifting, non-ambulatory students.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by
the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The
employee must be able to:
Ability to lift and carry classroom supplies and equipment.
Hear and speak to exchange information in person and on the telephone.
See to read a variety of materials.
Observe, hear and speak to students.
Possess dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment and perform the
necessary functions of the position.
Stand and walk.
Walk in classroom and outdoor environments.
Bend at the waist, kneel, or crouch.
Sit or stand for extended periods of time.
Reach horizontally and above shoulders to perform job functions.
In order to meet the criteria for this position you:
Must be 18 years old and have at least a minimum of high school diploma or
GED.
Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand Standard English and
carry out directions and instructions by the students teacher and/or principal
Must be willing and prepared to be fingerprinted.
Must demonstrate emotional and mental maturity as well as display an interest in
working with, and a sympathetic attitude toward, disabled children.
Must attend and successfully complete a minimum of twenty (20) hours of
training provided by agency, including behavior management strategies and
classroom procedures.
