About the Team

ACCEL Schools is seeking a highly-qualified Behavioral Intervention Paraeducator at Banning Lewis Preparatory Academy in Colorado Springs, CO dedicated to providing a superior education for all students for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. At Banning Lewis Ranch, we serve students in Grades K-5. Highlights include our Capturing Kid's Hearts Program, Celebration of Learning Nights, 5th Grade Capstone Field Trip to Washington DC, and a well-rounded student schedule that includes Spanish, Art, PE, Music & Technology.

At Banning Lewis Prep, we serve students in Grades 6-12. We carefully transition students into Middle School with purposeful social activities and programs as LEAD our leadership development program, sports through the Central Colorado Athletic League, and numerous clubs and electives. In High School, we offer traditions such as Homecoming, Prom, and Student Senate. We focus on Concurrent Enrollment opportunities, Service Learning Projects, Senior Capstone Projects, and college and career readiness (such as online courses, career & technical business programs, foreign exchange program opportunities and much more. At the High School level, our athletes compete in the Tri-Peaks League and have many additional extracurricular opportunities such as Mock Trial, Jazz & Concert Band, National Honor Society, and more.

About the Opportunity:

The Behavioral Intervention Paraeducator will work closely with students in grades 6-12 to support positive behavior development, academic engagement, and emotional regulation. This role involves implementing behavior intervention plans, providing direct support to students, collaborating with teachers and specialists, and fostering a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities include to-

Behavioral Support:

  • Implement individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) under the supervision of a Behavioral Intervention Specialist.
  • Monitor student behavior and progress, recording data accurately and consistently.
  • Assist in crisis intervention and de-escalation strategies as needed.
  • Support students in developing social skills, self-regulation techniques, and coping strategies.

Academic Assistance:
Provide academic support to students as directed by classroom teachers, including in-class assistance and one-on-one tutoring.

  • Modify instructional materials to accommodate students' behavioral and academic needs.
  • Encourage student participation and engagement in classroom activities.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with teachers, counselors, and other school staff to ensure a cohesive approach to student support.
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings, IEP meetings, and professional development sessions.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and any concerns.

Environmental Management:

  • Create and maintain a structured, supportive, and safe classroom environment.
  • Assist in developing and implementing positive behavior support systems within the school.
  • Supervise students during non-instructional times such as lunch, recess, and transitions between classes.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of student behavior, interventions, and outcomes.
  • Prepare reports on student progress for review by the Behavioral Intervention Specialist and school administration.
  • Adhere to confidentiality and ethical guidelines regarding student information.

About You:

  • Associate's degree or higher in education, psychology, social work, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational or behavioral setting.
  • Strong understanding of behavior management techniques and strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with students with diverse needs.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills and ability to learn school-specific software.
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) or similar certification preferred, or willingness to obtain upon hiring.
  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
  • Experience working with at-risk populations preferred.
  • Track record of building trust and positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Ability to maintain composure and job performance under changing or stressful conditions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to pass federal, state, and local background checks
