House CA (CHC) is excited to announce the launch of its new transitional housing site in Santa Clara, CA, for youth experiencing homelessness. Made possible by a unique public/private partnership, Covenant House will open the site in mid-December 2020. The staff at CHC Santa Clara will be part of a unique experience of being the first staff to ever work at the site, not only becoming a critical part of CHC’s history, but helping to develop a program that most effectively meets the needs of youth experiencing homelessness in the Santa Clara Valley. The staff will draw upon CHC’s 30+ years of experience serving youth, ages 18-24, while developing unique programming and services to meet the unique needs of youth in the SC Valley. POSITION SUMMARY: To manage, coordinate, supervise, and train a team of paraprofessionals to ensure the delivery of services to youth in the transitional living program in accordance with the Covenant House Mission, Code of Conduct and Policies and Procedures. This position functions as supervisor of the Rights of Passage transitional living program Day, Evening and Overnight shifts. This position is required to adhere to all agency policies/procedures and practices and ensures staff he/she supervises does the same.

The Resident Manager (RM) works with the Director of Residential Services (DRS) to provide leadership and management of day-to-day operations of our 30-bed program. All CHC staff work together to facilitate safety and comprehensive programming for youth in our programs and services. The RM duties include weekend and evening management, coordination, supervision, and training of a team of youth engagement specialists to ensure the delivery of services to youth that are strength-based, trauma-informed and a model of our mission to show absolute respect and unconditional love to all youth.

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt Full-Time 40 hours per week

SALARY: Annual Salary $66,560

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Staff/Team/Program

  • Manage and coordinate the youth engagement services and care provided to youth.
  • Participant in administrator on-call rotation with the Director.
  • Provide direct oversight, supervision, training, and coaching to all Youth Engagement Specialists. This includes interviewing and onboarding new staff, as well as participating in any disciplinary action or coaching needed during a staff’s employment at CHC.
  • Hold staff team meetings for informational and training purposes in conjunction with the Director of Residential Services.
  • Assist in setting and coordinating weekly/monthly staff schedules to ensure appropriate coverage 7 days per week 24 hours a day.
  • Provide emergency back-up staff coverage as needed during staffing shortages or during crisis situations.
  • Monitor and review staff timesheets for appropriate timecard punches, punch edits must include notes/justification and never to off-set late/early arrivals or adjust for overtime, reviews and signs final time sheets for staff he/she supervises (or as needed/approved).
  • Assign and monitor staff responsibilities for any given shift, including but not limited to supervision of youth and activities, cleanliness of facility, facilitation of night meetings, transportation of youth to appointments, facilitation of group activities when appropriate.
  • Lead daily shift transition meetings.
  • Identify training needs and advise the leadership team of training opportunities.
  • Create and facilitate life skills training and chore program for residents.
  • Oversee youth internships as assigned.
  • Responsible to monitor the use of petty cash which includes submission of all receipts per transition to the Director of Residential Services and ensures that transactions of public transportation passes for residents are accurate and can be accounted/reconciled by the Accounting department.
  • Attend all weekly team CPR / client progress review meetings as appropriate by shift.
  • Prepares monthly fire and earthquake drills.
  • Attend Coordinated Entry Assessment (CES) community meetings.

Milieu/Youth

  • Monitor program census to ensure compliance with CHC open intake, restriction, discharge and re-entry policies and procedures. Ensure ongoing monitoring and carrying out of strategic plan goals for residential program.
  • Ensure food services, meals, snacks and the overall health and safety compliance around food storage and serving is prioritized and followed by YES staff or those assigned to support the food service at the site.
  • Create opportunities for building community that ensure inclusive and affirming environment where youth feel welcome, seen, and valued.
  • Organize outings and on campus activities and workshops to foster community, engage residents, build rapport, and have fun together while learning and growing.
  • Provide crisis intervention to residents, as appropriate.
  • Assist youth in the follow through of assignments and tasks delineated on individual case plan. Maintain awareness of case management process and issues for individual youth.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Experience with youth experiencing homelessness or trafficking, youth with experiences in the foster care or juvenile justice system, or youth that have been marginalized or are vulnerable. Must have 1-3 years management/supervisory/coordination experience working within a residential setting, case management experience preferred.

SKILLS: Knowledge of adolescent development, crisis intervention, harm reduction, trauma-informed care, CPR and First Aid. Must have good organizational skills and the ability to communicate with members, clients, vendors, and the public. Ability to exercise appropriate authority when needed and good judgment in crisis situations, good written and verbal communication skills.

TRANSPORTATION: Must have a valid CA driver license, have reliable transportation and a good driving record.

CONDITIONS: This position is Full-Time (40hrs/week). Participation in the on-call rotation schedule. The on-call is responsible for providing on-call coverage for the shifts assigned to them on the rotation schedule.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES: Provide direct and indirect supervision to youth engagement specialists and per diems. Other Duties assigned by management.

EQUIPMENT USED: Computers (including email), telephone, and fax used on regular basis.
