Flagstaff, United States The Outreach Team Full time
Job DescriptionJob Description

Voter Registration Field Directors

The Outreach Team is a premier national field firm. We partner with organizations working to solve some of the biggest problems facing our society -- from protecting human rights to ensuring all voters have an opportunity to be heard at the ballot box -- and help them build the resources they need to make an impact. We are a people-powered enterprise; our campaigns are effective because we hire diverse teams of talented people, invest in our staff, and treat them well.

We are hiring Directors to manage our offices in Phoenix, Tucson, and Flagstaff. Directors will recruit, train, and manage a team of local staff to collect voter registrations in high pedestrian street traffic areas near college campuses in the community.

Registering voters is an essential first step to ensuring elected officials reflect the diversity and wishes of the communities they serve. Too often community members are invested in elections but do not have access to register to vote or they’re unsure of the process to register. We’ll engage with unregistered voters in busy areas in their communities and take them through the process to register to vote. Through our work, we will provide access for thousands of voters in Arizona to register to vote and cast their vote later this election cycle.

We are hiring immediately. This position can run through October 20, 2024, with opportunities to extend.

Locations: Phoenix, Tucson, and Flagstaff. Strong preference for in-state candidates, short-term travel may be required.

Canvass Management Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of 10-30 hourly staff who will be collecting registrations for a state-wide ballot initiative
  • Set goals and hold staff accountable
  • Train and provide ongoing motivation and support to staff
  • Identify, promote, and train a leadership team
  • Build a diverse team where staff feel respected, while fostering a culture of equity and justice
  • Implement quality control measures to ensure integrity of the work
  • Go in the field yourself a few days per week to register voters, train staff, and help drive office goals
  • Maintain a healthy and safe working environment for all staff
  • Develop strategic plans to reach registered voters in assigned locations
  • Manage administrative duties, including reporting data, record keeping, processing payroll, and distribution of materials

Qualifications:

Must have

  • Leadership experience, ability to motivate a large team
  • Eagerness to lead from the front and canvass several days a week.
  • Extreme attention to detail and a proven ability to instill that quality in others.
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong passion for community organizing and fostering civic engagement.
  • Track record of equity and inclusion.
  • Ability to work long hours, including evenings and weekends.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience running paid canvasses or managing paid employees
  • Familiarity with VAN
  • Experience working in underserved or marginalized communities
  • Facilitation experience
  • Local knowledge/experience

Salary: The salary range for this position is $1,350 - $1,650 per week. We offer a generous benefits package, including paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance, and hands-on training. At the end of the campaign, there may be opportunities for advancement and bonuses.

At The Outreach Team, we prioritize equity and inclusion. We are an equal opportunity employer and we strongly encourage Black, indigenous, people of color, women, people with previous felony convictions, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and others who identify with underrepresented groups to apply.
