Founded in 1909 and affiliated with the Episcopal Church, The Bishop’s School is an independent, all gender college-preparatory day school for 800 students in grades six through twelve located on a historic campus in the heart of La Jolla, just 10 miles north of downtown San Diego. Compensation: $28-38/hour 

Summary Description:

The Head Varsity Boys’ Volleyball Coach is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Boys’ Volleyball program. This includes coaching athletes, scheduling practices and matches, coordinating travel arrangements, maintaining appropriate web platforms for scheduling and scoring, and thorough communication with students, parents, and the athletic department. Additionally, the coach will handle other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or designee. Candidates for this position must demonstrate a strong commitment to the academic and athletic success of the student-athletes, ensuring they excel in both their studies and their sport.

 

Essential Functions and Specific Duties:  

  • Knowledge of applicable team or individual volleyball techniques and strategies.
  • Ability to organize and lead daily practices.
  • Demonstrated competitive coaching skills in the area of volleyball.
  • Strong knowledge of CIF and NFHS rules and policies.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with student-athletes.
  • Knowledge of strength and conditioning methods and techniques
  • HUDL and digital media analysis 
  • Communicate with student-athletes to understand their goals and ambitions.
  • Assess the strengths of individual athletes and teach them to use them effectively and improve their skills overall.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of student-athletes.
  • Administration:
  • Keep records and documentation of and prepare appropriate reports.
  • Proactively support the athletics department and anticipate the needs of all constituencies.
  • Perform with a team approach and other duties as assigned.
 

An Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • High school diploma required.  College degree preferred.
  • Required certifications:
  • AED/CPR/First Aid
  • NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching
  • NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest 
  • NFHS Concussion Training
  • NFHS Heat Illness Training
  • At least 5 year of proven job experience as a coach or working with students 6-12 grades.
  • Knowledge of applicable team or individual sports and playing rules.
  • Knowledge of strengthening and conditioning methods and techniques.
  • Ability to adhere to regulations and standards.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate.
  • Basic proficiency with Google Workspace and aptitude for learning new technology.
  • Demonstrated competitive coaching skills in the area of sporting specialty.
