Job Summary

The Certified Peer Recovery Specialist will join the program team in providing high quality support services to women living across Calvary’s six housing programs. The Certified Peer Recovery Specialist will provide and advocate for effective recovery based services to aid in creating a stable environment for individuals suffering from a substance abuse disorder or a dual diagnosis (mental health and substance abuse disorder). The focus of the position is improving daily living skills, mentoring and education, and Wellness and Recovery. The Certified Peer Recovery Specialist position brings a unique asset to the program team as the Certified Peer Recovery Specialist has firsthand learned experience with recovery that allows the candidate to fully empathize and relate to the struggles of program participants and offers hope and support in overcoming obstacles.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Client Services

· Lead addiction recovery groups and activities

· Complements case management services, working in coordination to support clients as they move toward and strive to maintain permanent housing

· Coordinate with therapy and nurse to ensure holistic health and wellness services

· Provide in-home visitation to support clients of PSH and RRH programs

· Work one-on-one with clients to determine strengths and needs to develop and meet self-directed recovery goals

· Practice according to the principles of recovery oriented and trauma informed service delivery

· Assist PSH/RRH clients in identifying and participating in self-help groups, community groups, faith-based community groups to foster participant’s community involvement

· Utilize and teach problem solving techniques with clients

· Teach clients how to identify and combat negative self-talk and how to identify and overcome fears

· Assist clients in building social skills and developing empowering skills to combat stigma through self-advocacy


Program/Team

· Document and report concerns to supervisor in a timely manner

· Maintain a comprehensive and accurate case notes of interactions/meetings and enter into Apricot database

· Work closely with case managers to collaborate continuity of care and place referrals to the community based organizations as needed

· In collaboration with the Program Manager, utilize tools such as Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) to help residents create their individualized recovery plan


OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Meet with the Program Manager for weekly supervision

· Participate in appropriate staff meetings, all staff meetings and in-service trainings

· Complete all contract mandated professional training

· Serve as the secondary on-call staff for the permanent housing programs

· Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Requirements:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:


· Ability to build rapport with clients from all walks of life and backgrounds while setting appropriate boundaries and limits

· A successful track record in setting priorities; outstanding planning, problem solving, and multi-tasking skills

· Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing and basis theories of behavior change

· Team player with a positive attitude and encouraging presence

· Ability to facilitate recovery groups and a proven track record of improved housing and recovery outcomes

· Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information

· Possess strong cultural competence including ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


· High School Diploma/GED required

· Must be able to provide documentation of current certification through the Department of Behavioral Health


WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:


· Own transportation is required for trips out of the office

· Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 30 pounds without assistance

· Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.

· Climbing: Ascending or descending multiple flights of stairs, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms

· Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period
