POPULATION SERVED

 

The position does not involve direct patient care for a population of patients ages 18 and older.  Age specific experience and/or special training and/or expertise are not required to serve this population.

 

POSITION SUMMARY


An admissions assistant is usually the first person a patient deals with upon entering into a hospital. The admissions assistant takes down all the patients’ personal and medical information along with the reasons for visiting. They store this information for later use and attempt to be as thorough as possible for the sake of the doctors, nurses, patients and family members.

 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS


The requirement for an admissions assistant is to have a GED or a high school diploma.

 

Job Duties

 

An admissions assistant recycles through the same job duties during the day depending on the particular needs of the hospital at any moment. If there are patients coming in, the admissions assistant focuses their entire attention on assisting them  with check-in and recording their medical information and problems. When there aren’t patients, an admissions assistant answers phones and emails and performs data entry duties. The admissions assistant will assist with insurance verifications, including filling out forms and calling insurance companies for specific information on a patient.

 

Job Requirements


The requirement to be employed in this position, besides the necessary education, is the completion of an on-the-job training program. This program may be formal or informal depending on the hospital, but it is usually done under the direct guidance of a trained worker. After the job training is completed, an admissions assistant may be asked to periodically go through new training programs or seminars when new equipment is incorporated into the workplace. Additionally, new procedures may be implemented that have to be followed by the admissions assistant.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Review all admissions for accuracy and submit reports to management in a timely manner.
  • Explains hospital regulations, such as visiting
  • Assist in escorting patient to their assigned rooms or arranging for an escort.
  • Enter patient admitting information into computer and routes printed copy to designated department.
  • Obtain signed statements from patients to protect hospitals’
  • Assist in assigning patients to rooms when necessary
  • Compiling data for occupancy and census
  • May store patient’s valuable when needed.
  • May assist in obtaining signatures for consents,
  • Answer phones; emails and perform any other duties pertaining to the Admissions
  • May prepare admission folders by gathering admission paperwork for scheduled patients
