POSITION SUMMARY
The Patient Admissions Coordinator serves as the initial point of contact for individuals entering a healthcare facility. This role involves collecting essential personal and medical information from patients, as well as documenting the reasons for their visit. The coordinator ensures that this information is accurately recorded for future reference, facilitating effective communication among healthcare providers, patients, and their families.
POPULATION SERVED
This position does not entail direct patient care and is focused on serving adult patients aged 18 and older. Specific age-related experience or specialized training is not a prerequisite for this role.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
A high school diploma or GED is required for the Patient Admissions Coordinator position.
Key Responsibilities
- Review all admissions for accuracy and ensure timely submission of reports to management.
- Clarify hospital policies and procedures to patients.
- Assist in guiding patients to their designated rooms or arrange for appropriate escorts.
- Input patient admission data into the computer system and route printed documents to the relevant departments.
- Secure signed agreements from patients to safeguard the hospital's interests.
- Support in the assignment of patient rooms as necessary.
- Compile occupancy and census data for reporting purposes.
- Safeguard patients' valuables when required.
- Assist in obtaining necessary signatures for consent forms.
- Handle phone inquiries and perform additional tasks related to the admissions process.
- Prepare admission packets by gathering necessary documentation for scheduled patients.
Job Requirements
In addition to the educational requirements, candidates must complete an on-the-job training program, which may vary in formality depending on the healthcare facility. This training is typically conducted under the supervision of an experienced staff member. Following the completion of training, the Patient Admissions Coordinator may be required to participate in ongoing training sessions or workshops to stay updated on new equipment and procedures implemented within the organization.
