The Green & Healthy Homes Initiative (GHHI) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit entity with the vision of advancing the social determinants of health and racial equity through healthy housing. With an emphasis on black and brown communities, GHHI delivers improved health, economic and social outcomes. GHHI supports housing, environmental health, and energy efficiency services for families in communities around the country, as well as conducting direct services in Maryland. About the Position:
This individual will drive policy and advocacy efforts federally and in Maryland to support lead poisoning prevention, healthy housing, and climate efforts. The individual will also support similar GHHI efforts around the country. Building electrification, reducing environmental health risks in homes, and reducing elevated blood lead levels in children by reducing lead hazards in housing, lead service lines, and other sources will be the primary foci of the federal policy and advocacy activities, with other subject areas including but not limited to: residential solar, energy efficiency, weatherization, and fall prevention. The individual will also conduct tasks and projects as directed by the President and CEO.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This is a dynamic, full-time position located in Baltimore, Maryland, the headquarters of GHHI, or in Washington, D.C. The Policy Analyst will report to the President and CEO and will work in tandem with other policy and advocacy staff. Duties and responsibilities of the Policy Analyst include, but are not limited to:
- Support policy and advocacy efforts on green and healthy housing federally
- Support policy and advocacy efforts on green and healthy housing including solar for all in Maryland and DC
- Support policy and advocacy efforts on green and healthy housing in other jurisdictions
- Maintain working knowledge of lead poisoning prevention policy
- Build and maintain relationships with key policy stakeholders
- Participate in relevant advocacy and working groups on climate, lead, and healthy housing matters
- Produce materials in support of GHHI’s advocacy, policy, and related activities
- Support testimony or public comment on proposed legislation, policies, and regulations as needed
- Support general nationwide GHHI policy and advocacy work
This position is full-time and reports to the Senior Vice President of National Programs. The GHHI Baltimore office is located at 2714 Hudson St, Baltimore, MD 21224.
Qualifications:
The successful applicant must possess:
- Strong skills in analyzing policy and legislative materials and communicating information with appropriate stakeholders
- Experience providing public comment and testimony on proposed legislation, policies, and regulations
- Familiarity with federal advocacy and policy, especially related to lead poisoning prevention, housing, and related areas
- Ability to work independently while serving as part of a national team
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences/stakeholders orally and in writing
- Flexibility, initiative, and a collaborative spirit
- Professional, positive work ethic
The ideal candidate should have:
- Degree in public policy, public health, public administration, environmental science, or other equivalent experience
- Policy experience related to lead or other healthy housing or residential climate matters
- Passion for mission-focused and/or nonprofit-related work
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent communication skills
