GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Navigator plays a key role in assisting individuals with disabilities in developing, implementing and maintaining a vocational and/or non-vocational plan. The Navigator helps individuals identify their interests, skills and goals needed to reach their goals. Navigators also supervise and coach Job Coaches who are assigned to support participants in activities that allow them to make progress toward their goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, special education or related field required.

Other:

Two years related work experience serving individuals with disabilities required. Supervisory experience preferred. American Sign Language skills is a plus. Interpersonal skills sufficient to communicate with participants, public and staff. Composition skills sufficient to prepare required reports. Driving record must meet safe driving standards as established by Agency insurance carrier. Reliable automobile and valid Michigan driver's license, proof of registration and insurance are required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  1. Recruit, hire, orient, train and supervise designated staff. Complete written performance evaluations as required.
  2. In conjunction with the participants and staff, develop and implement specific programs to assist participants with learning and maintaining skills that maximize and promote a healthy, active and socially integrated lifestyle.
  3. Using a person-centered approach, provide case coordination, follow-along supports, linkages and advocacy services to participants
  4. Manage day-to-day operations of assigned employment, volunteer/and or recreations locations, including developing, implementing, and maintaining quality procedures so that service and safety requirements are met
  5. Develop, monitor, and periodically review support plans for designated participants.
  6. Secure and maintain required authorizations for service.
  7. Prepare and submit necessary documentation in computerized databases for funding source in a timely manner.
  8. Generate reports and other documents to ensure that the case record is in accordance with all applicable regulations for governing accreditation and funding bodies.
  9. Carry cell phone and be available to provide coverage to ensure proper staffing at sites, as well as to provide direction to staff.
  10. Establish and maintain positive and outcome-oriented relationships with participants and their involved others, community partners, other team members, and funding sources.
  11. Ensure all staff documentation including progress notes are completed accurately and submitted on time.
  12. Facilitate meetings with staff to discuss scheduling, activities, participant status and other training topics.
  13. Transport participants using own vehicle or agency van, as needed.
  14. Perform job coaching, and/or Lead Job Coach duties, as needed.
  15. Serve on Agency committee(s) as appointed.


WORKING CONDITIONS

Environmental conditions:

  • Moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic).
  • Ability to work in a confined area.
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period.
  • Ability to work both inside or outside of building where there may be exposure to environmental conditions such as heat, cold, humidity; dust and cleaning solutions.

Physical requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard, reach, stoop, kneel to install computer equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
  • Light to moderate lifting in required.

  • Work involves the ability to work flexible hours and travel to local community/work sites.

This position is exempt from the overtime pay provisions of the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act.
