WHAT YOU’LL DO

With your hands-on approach and leadership experience, you’ll be able to successfully lead the day-to-day activities in our machine shop.

  • Use a variety of hand tools and precision measuring instruments
  • Ensure that parts produced comply with company quality standards by monitoring the production process, following and documenting inspection procedures, measuring and documenting dimensions, and identifying variances
  • Perform machine changeover and tool setting duties when needed
  • Make standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds of machining
  • Lift and move heavy objects
  • Responsible for completing training, work orders, and verifying labor hours worked
  • Recommend process changes to optimize production and improve quality
  • Keep work area clean and orderly, and enforce cleanliness in every work center
  • Communicate production status to the supervisor and to shift personnel as required to ensure any problems and/or schedules are understood and met
  • Contribute to cost reductions and productivity improvements
  • Report and record any scrap produced
  • Assist the manager by filling out and implementing employee evaluations, PCNs, CARs, and timecards
  • Assist in the implementation of performance metrics (scrap, setup times, and indirect labor) reporting on improvement targets
  • Focus on building teamwork within the machine shop
  • Ensure that company standard practices and procedures are followed
  • Promote and administer safety awareness daily
  • Supervise and direct all machine shop activity to achieve stated performance goals regarding quality and on-time delivery
  • Visibly monitor the status and flow of the value stream daily
  • Assist in the creation of future state value stream maps and the implementation plan for getting from current state to future state
  • Define, plan, and execute basic Lean improvement activities with support from an industrial engineer
  • Must be able to attain and maintain a forklift license

YOUR EXPERIENCES & SKILLS

  • Three (3) years of precision CNC machining experience and one (1) year of conventional machining experience are required
  • Previous lead or supervisory experience would be a plus
  • Formally trained in the principles and methodology of Lean Enterprise
  • Capable of creating change across functional and departmental boundaries
  • Must be flexible to perform a variety of assignments and adapt to changing conditions
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and specifications
  • A persuasive speaker to both peers and superiors—has natural charisma
  • Exceptional mechanical aptitude
  • Exceptional mathematical aptitude
  • Able to make recommendations and effectively participate in the implementation of company policies and procedures
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand tolerances
  • Experience in performing setups and tool changes
  • Experience in finished parts inspection using various precision measurement tools
  • Knowledge of manufacturing functions, including methods, processing, tooling, work standards, facility layout, cost controls, and reduction
  • Knowledge and skills to develop and implement CNC part programming to effectively support machining and robotic operations and assembly processes
  • Effectively able to present information in one-on-one and small group situations
  • Must be able to provide own basic inspection and hand tools
  • Ability to work well with others
