The Receiving Lead is a key member of the warehouse or logistics team responsible for overseeing the receiving and inspection of incoming goods, ensuring the accurate and efficient flow of inventory, and managing a team of receiving personnel. The role involves coordination, organization, and attention to detail to maintain the integrity of the inventory management process.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervision and Team Management:
    • Lead and manage a team of receiving personnel.
    • Assign tasks, set priorities, and provide guidance to team members.
    • Conduct training and mentorship to improve the skills and efficiency of the receiving team.
    • Evaluate and manage team performance, providing feedback and conducting performance reviews.
  2. Receiving Process Management:
    • Oversee the receiving process, including unloading, sorting, and inspecting incoming shipments.
    • Verify that received goods match purchase orders, packing lists, and invoices.
    • Inspect items for damage, discrepancies, or quality issues, and report findings.
    • Ensure proper handling and storage of received inventory.
  3. Inventory Control:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of received inventory.
    • Organize and label received items for easy identification and retrieval.
    • Collaborate with the inventory control team to track stock levels, replenishment, and restocking needs.
    • Assist in the implementation of inventory management systems and best practices.
  4. Quality Assurance:
    • Implement quality control procedures to ensure that received goods meet quality and safety standards.
    • Collaborate with suppliers or vendors to address quality issues or discrepancies.
    • Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to maintain product integrity.
  5. Documentation and Compliance:
    • Ensure that all receiving documentation, including packing slips, purchase orders, and inspection records, are accurate and complete.
    • Maintain compliance with receiving regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
    • Stay informed about industry-specific compliance requirements.
  6. Supplier and Internal Communication:
    • Communicate effectively with suppliers or vendors regarding shipment schedules, delivery discrepancies, and quality concerns.
    • Collaborate with other departments, such as procurement, warehouse management, and distribution, to coordinate the timely flow of goods.
    • Address inquiries and resolve issues related to received inventory.
  7. Safety and Training:
    • Promote a culture of safety within the receiving department, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and regulations.
    • Provide training on safe handling, equipment operation, and receiving procedures.
  8. Reporting and Recordkeeping:
    • Maintain detailed records and reports of receiving activities, inventory levels, and discrepancies.
    • Generate regular reports for management and other stakeholders.
    • Analyze data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities for efficiency gains.
Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications or coursework in logistics or inventory management may be beneficial.
  • Proven experience in receiving, inventory control, or warehouse management, with demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of receiving regulations, quality control processes, and industry best practices.
  • Proficiency in inventory management software, warehouse management systems (WMS), and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment, such as forklifts or pallet jacks (if required).
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and quality.
