Position Description:

LCG is seeking a Sr. Communications Engineer is a senior technical position responsible for managing, coordinating, and executing all aspects of network resource planning, analysis, and the operation of LAN/WAN infrastructure. This role involves designing, planning, and implementing new network solutions, improving existing infrastructure, and ensuring the seamless operation and security of network systems. The Sr. Communications Engineer will work closely with the IT security team, lead complex technical projects, and provide senior-level leadership to other technical staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Oversee and manage the planning, analysis, design, development, quality assurance, and maintenance of NLM's LAN/WAN infrastructure.

· Lead the design and execution of new network implementations and product integrations.

· Recommend and implement LAN/WAN improvements and optimizations.

· Work closely with IT security team members to plan and implement network and security solutions.

· Provide senior-level leadership and guidance to other technical staff, managing complex technical tasks and projects.

· Maintain effective communication with Government personnel, hardware/software vendors, and service providers.

· Identify, recommend, and implement solutions to network-related problems.

· Maintain high standards of quality and ensure network reliability and performance.

· Manage and support network operations, including system backups, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting.

· Ensure timely restoration of any data communication services that fail or degrade.

· Perform continuous monitoring and verification of the operational status of all supported network services.

· Monitor and manage the operational status of the LAN network, including connections to other LAN and WAN networks using tools like HP OpenView, CiscoWorks, and Open NMS.

· Analyze network performance and implement improvements as necessary

· Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of LAN devices, software, and cabling.

· Provide installation instructions and support to others performing network installations.

· Administer network systems, including configuration management, software, and hardware upgrades.

· Ensure systems are optimized for performance and up-to-date with the latest patches and releases.

· Maintain comprehensive network documentation, including network diagrams, equipment configurations, and maintenance records.

· Oversee the receiving, inspection, and tracking of equipment, software, and supplies.

· Evaluate existing and future communication requirements, preparing alternative recommendations and simulations to meet these needs.

· Plan enhancements to the network and evaluate new communication products and technologies.

Requirements:

· Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field is required.

· Minimum of 12 years of overall work experience, with at least 10 years of specialized experience in network engineering is required.

· Certification: CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) is required.

· Extensive experience working with Juniper, Cisco, Arista, and Nexus routers/switches or equivalent devices.

· Expertise in network management tools such as HP OpenView, IPAM, DHCP, DNS, VPNs, and Firewalls.

· Proficiency with protocols like TCP/IP versions 4 and 6, BGP, OSPF, HSRP, and hybrid cloud networks.

· Experience with network security, including Tenable Nessus and Risk Management Framework (RMF).

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Excellent communication and leadership abilities.

· Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.

· Experience in creating standard operating procedures and network diagrams.
