POSITION OVERVIEW

The City of Van, a vibrant and community-minded city in southeastern Van Zandt County, is seeking a dynamic and experienced City Manager to join their dedicated and talented team. With a population of 2,831, Van is a close-knit community that values its people, hometown values, and excellent schools. Van prides itself on its strong sense of community, active citizen involvement, and leadership. The city offers an excellent quality of life with lovely parks, a stunning lake, and ample recreational activities. We are committed to growth and economic development, with an annual budget of $5 million and a team of 25 dedicated employees who take pride in serving our residents.

As City Manager, you will be appointed by the City Council and work under the Council and Mayor to lead and manage the daily operations of Van. This includes overseeing departments such as General Administration, Community Services, Finance, Fire, Facilities Maintenance, Police, Public Utilities, and Public Works. The City Manager is a visible leader within the community, responsible for policy development, budget preparation and management, and staff supervision. You will work closely with city departments, outside agencies, and the community to ensure the city continues to thrive.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in business or public administration, with a Master's degree or Certified Public Manager credentialing preferred. You should have at least 10 years of progressive public administration experience, 3 years in a City Manager or Assistant City Manager role, or equivalent experience. You must have exceptional communication, leadership, and organizational skills, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to excellence.
