Job Title: Assistant Controller

Overview: The Assistant Controller plays a crucial role in the financial management and reporting of a manufacturing facility. This position involves monitoring and analyzing financial data, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and providing insights to support operational decision-making within the plant. The Assistant Controller collaborates with various departments to streamline processes, optimize costs, and maximize profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Reporting:
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Conduct variance analysis to identify trends, discrepancies, and areas for improvement.
  • Provide management with regular reports on financial performance and key metrics.
Cost Accounting:
  • Monitor production costs and analyze variances against budgeted and standard costs.
  • Develop and maintain cost accounting systems to track expenses and allocate costs appropriately.
  • Work with operations teams to identify cost-saving opportunities and optimize resource utilization.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
  • Assist in the development of annual budgets and forecasts for the plant.
  • Monitor budget performance and provide insights to management on deviations and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with department heads to align spending with strategic objectives.
Inventory Management:
  • Oversee the valuation and control of inventory, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Perform regular inventory reconciliations and analysis to identify discrepancies and improve inventory turnover.
  • Implement inventory management best practices to minimize carrying costs and stockouts.
Compliance and Internal Controls:
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and mitigate financial risks.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and explanations as needed.
Financial Analysis and Decision Support:
  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making.
  • Evaluate investment opportunities, capital projects, and cost-benefit analysis.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess the financial impact of operational initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or CMA designation preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and manufacturing cost accounting principles.
