Responsibilities

The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor that will report directly to the Maintenance Manager and will be responsible for performing various but is not limited to: reducing maintenance costs and improve equipment reliability through the implementation of a predictive maintenance program and by planning, coordinating and supervising corrective maintenance projects assigned by the Maintenance Manager. The incumbent will also plan shutdown repairs and be responsible for the completion of capital projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervises the maintenance mechanics, maintenance technicians, quarry employees and machinist that are either employees or contractors.
  • Plans, schedules and directs the inspection, repair and servicing of cement plant production machinery and equipment. Inspects work in progress and assigns personnel to jobs in accordance with schedule and skills available.
  • Coordinates activities with other supervisors to maximize production and minimize downtime.
  • Assists in creating plant shut down scheduled to ensure coverage.
  • Reviews status of repair items being fabricated in the shop to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Ensuring that all plant equipment is operational, clean and safe.
  • Requisitions materials, supplies and equipment from stores, as required, to ensure a smooth continuous operation.
  • Approves store requisitions for repair materials and parts.
  • Participates in "on-call" program with other Maintenance Supervisors and Maintenance Planner.
  • Prepares daily time sheets.
  • Actively participating in regular safety/maintenance meetings.
  • Identifying and providing maintenance and safety training to employees.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment as outline by MSHA and company regulations.
  • Investigates and reports on accidents involving employees and equipment. Promotes and enforces safe working practices and good housekeeping.
  • Maintains current knowledge of collective bargaining agreement and related plant policies. Seeks opportunities to promote and instill an attitude of cost and profit consciousness.
  • Continues self-improvement activities especially in the area of welding, repair techniques and machine shop equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be willing and able to work rotating shifts.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Some college in a related field is preferred.
  • 3-5 years supervisory experience in a cement or similar industrial plant preferred.
  • Supervising in a union environment strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in industrial maintenance work, including equipment failure, troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Computer proficiency to include Microsoft Office programs. Oracle experience is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication sills (written and oral).
  • Good organization and decision making abilities.
  • Must have knowledge of safety regulations, environmental regulations, welding and repair.
  • Ability to work without supervision and be self-motivated.
  • Good mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills and problem solving abilities.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and blueprints.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY:

  • Moderate physical exertion required including pushing, pulling, walking and climbing of stairs and ladders in the plant.
  • Moderate visual acuity. Must be able to read typed letters, computer printouts, computer screens, etc.
  • Moderate hearing ability. Must be able to conduct interviews, communicate face-to-face, by telephone or radio, and participate in meetings.
  • Must be able to speak clearly and loudly enough to be heard and understood in the plant environment.
  • Must be capable of arm, hand and finger manipulation without visual control. Climbing is ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body ability is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion. Balancing is maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount and kind or balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium. Stooping is bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires fill use of the lower extremities and back muscles. Walking is moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
