Job Title: Court Security Scanner

Hours: PT 7:30 am - 1:30pm (20-25 per week)

Salary: $15.14/hr.

Location: Court Security (Portsmouth Judicial Center)

Reports to: Division Commander    


Job Summary: The Portsmouth Sheriff's Office is seeking a vigilant and client-oriented Part Time Court Security Scanner. The Part Time Court Security Scanner is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the judicial building by greeting and welcoming clients, monitoring the entry points, and using scanning equipment to detect and prevent illegal items from entering the premises. This role is crucial in maintaining a secure environment for all visitors, staff, and judicial personnel.

 

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

 

  • Welcome Visitors: Warmly greet clients, legal professionals, and other visitors as they enter the courthouse, providing a positive first impression.
  • Screen and Scan: Operate metal detectors, x-ray machines, and other security scanning equipment to thoroughly screen individuals and their belongings for prohibited or dangerous items.
  • Enforce Security Protocols: Enforce courthouse security protocols and ensure that no illegal items, such as weapons, drugs, or other contraband, are brought into the building.
  • Monitor Entrances: Maintain vigilant surveillance of courthouse entry points, ensuring that only authorized individuals are granted access.
  • Conflict Resolution: Handle potential security issues calmly and professionally, diffusing situations when necessary, and alerting law enforcement or court security officers when required.
  • Report Incidents: Document and report any security incidents, breaches, or confiscated items in accordance with court procedures.
  • Assist Visitors: Provide directions and answer basic questions about courthouse operations to visitors in a courteous manner.
  • Emergency Response: Assist in emergency situations, including evacuations, and provide support to law enforcement as needed.
  • Maintain Equipment: Regularly check and maintain security equipment to ensure it is functioning correctly and report any malfunctions for immediate repair.


Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Security Experience: Prior experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field is preferred, particularly in environments with high public interaction.

Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail to identify potential security threats and enforce courthouse rules.

Communication Skills: Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with the public, court staff, and law enforcement personnel.

Physical Fitness: Ability to stand for extending periods and perform physical tasks.

Tech Savvy: Comfortable with using and maintaining security equipment such as x-ray machines and metal detectors.
