Scope:

This position hours are Monday - Friday 11:30am -8pm

The Sr. Laboratory Technologist conducts clinical laboratory testing, maintains lab documentation to comply with Good Laboratory Practices; supports work of Director of Laboratory Operations and Chief Scientific Officer. May mentor work of other Technologists as well as providing technical guidance to technologists on lab tests and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with lab management to ensure that the clinical fluid chemistry processes (CEA and amylase) meet scientific standards. Accurately conducts analysis/examination using validated methods and reporting of results.
  • Performs lab work including PCR and genetic analysis, as well as, other techniques and processes as may be required to support the scientific and commercial needs of the Company. Accurately conducts analysis/examination using validated methods and reporting of results.
  • Documents lab processes and procedures and adheres to established laboratory protocols.
  • Provides technical laboratory support for all clinical and research efforts associated with scientific and commercial needs.
  • Properly uses and maintains lab equipment, lab reagents and supplies, and calibrates equipment as/when necessary.
  • Provides necessary support for smooth operation and delivery of Company’s services.
  • May train Laboratory Technologists.
  • Provides leadership in areas of quality assurance and quality control.
  • Serve as liaison between the pathologists and laboratory technical staff to coordinate training, joint projects and work toward departmental goals.
  • Work with production pathologist, QA Director and technical staff to identify and make changes in process to improve quality of analyses.
  • Review NY State Standards and CAP checklists and assist in preparation for inspections.
  • May help to manage staff training, update training folders.
  • May observe competencies of laboratory staff, if the regulatory requirements are met
  • Handle special projects and other tasks as assigned.
  • Participates in the maintenance of the Quality Management System and quality control program regarding all aspects of laboratory operations, ensuring the integrity of analytical testing and results. This includes preparing and updating SOPs, use of appropriate controls and QA of results.
  • Performs duties in compliance w/ laboratory safety & infection control practices.
  • Maintain competency through performance evaluation and proficiency testing.
  • Participates in identifying and making changes in process to improve quality of analyses.




Education and/or Experience:

  • BS degree in Medical Technology or a lab based scientific discipline that provides the foundation for understanding the applicable science used in the Company AND
  • 4-5 years experience in a clinical or research laboratory environment; commercial laboratory is preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

ASCP preferred

Supervisory Responsibilities:

May oversee the daily activities of other laboratory technologists.

May observe competencies of laboratory staff, if the regulatory requirements are met
