Job Title: Patient Service Representative

Schedule: Monday – Friday 9:00am – 5:30pm

Supervisor: Chief Medical Officer

Department: Clinical Administration

Job Type: Full-Time 37.5 hours weekly

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Salary: $40k -$50k

Bronx Community Health Network (BCHN) was founded in 1996 to ensure that the socio-economically depressed and medically underserved residents of the Bronx have access to high-quality and comprehensive healthcare services, Bronx Community Health Network (BCHN) is a not-for-profit, community-based organization and Federally Qualified Health Center. The organization provides a wide range of comprehensive, coordinated primary medical, oral, and mental health care and related diagnostic, pharmacy, social support, and enabling services for medically underserved/uninsured residents.


BCHN’s mission is to improve the health of people and families in the Bronx; provide access to affordable, quality health care, especially for uninsured persons; promote disease prevention, early treatment and healthful lifestyles; and obtain financial and other resources for programs and services. BCHN’s service area includes the entire borough of the Bronx, including all 25 ZIP codes. Within this area, Health Center sites focus on the low-income and underserved populations.


BCHN is seeking to hire a Patient Service Representative to serve as the point of contact for patients when they enter our medical facility.

Essential Functions:

  • Entering data for patients into an electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Answering patient questions about billing and payments
  • Registering, scheduling and re-scheduling patients for initial appointments and follow-ups
  • Contacting patients over the phone or processing paperwork in-person to collect information about the patient’s past treatments and other historical medical data, including medications and surgical history
  • Screening incoming calls to provide the proper routing to other departments when necessary
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • Associates degree (Preferred)
  • More than two (2) years of related experience required

Special Skills and Knowledge:

  • Experience working in diverse communities. Ability to work with individuals in a group and individual settings – with people of all cultures.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
  • Excellent active listening skills and strong service orientation
