HERE Now (Teen Suicide Prevention) Program



Position Summary

Lifeline Community Services is hiring a Prevention Specialist to support our growing team. You will be responsible for will provide comprehensive trauma-informed school based suicide Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI) services in the North Inland and North Coastal regions. The HERE Now Prevention Specialist is responsible for providing education and trainings to school staff and gatekeepers to include: outreach and school-wide suicide prevention education, risk assessments, individual intervention services and care coordination with area mental health support and services. Specifically, shall work with district employees, youth, and parents in creating an overall school environment conducive to appropriate learning for the pupils in the District that promotes positive mental health, stigma reduction, and suicide prevention. This is a Bachelor's level role that will help our team implement suicide prevention and early intervention services to schools throughout inland and coastal North County area. This position is contracted through June 2025.

We're looking for a candidate who is able to connect with youth and families using culturally sensitive and trauma informed practices. This role requires creativity, flexibility, and teamwork, since your day-to-day work will be as part of a team at schools and will require the ability to make sound clinical decisions.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree required
  • Must have direct or indirect experience with children's mental health services
  • Must be able to handle stressful and crisis situations tactfully and appropriately, and to seek supervision when necessary
  • Able to work in a diverse environment and demonstrate cultural competence with people of all backgrounds, culture, and orientation
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must possess reliable transportation as clinicians provide services at multiple sites (mileage reimbursed).
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Present an evidence-based curriculum, Signs of Suicide, and bullying prevention to 7th- 12th grade students with the purpose of reducing risk and enhancing protective factors as well as facilitate mental health and safety trainings for parents, district staff, and community members.
  • Plan, coordinate and conduct trainings to school staff and gatekeepers with Here Now Clinicians.
  • Provide one-on-one safety assessments and crisis management to at-risk students and their families, while utilizing a trauma-informed care philosophy and recovery principles; Stay current on best-practices for clients.
  • Sustain the team commitment to County of San Diego CSOC Principles.
  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively with staff and volunteers
  • Participate in carrying out agency plans and vision; Participate in appropriate agency-wide committees as applicable; Participate in all required trainings, meetings, and consultation/supervisions.
  • Maintain accurate and timely uniform record documentation on all youth/families.
  • Responsible for outreach in a culturally appropriate manner to community members and families in their community and school.
  • Work with families to reduce disparities and stigma in accessing mental health services.
  • Identify individual/family strengths that can be applied to overcome identified family challenges that prevent/hinder the family from maintaining a safe home environment for their youth.
  • Provide support in the form of reflective listening, emotional support, strengths identification, challenge identification, and solution seeking as needed.
  • Coordinate linkages with mental health support and services and other needed services for youth/families with depression, mental health problems, substance abuse or history of trauma indicating a high risk for suicide/self-harm
  • Coordinate advocacy efforts for youth/families serviced within and across the system of care and assist youth/families in locating, coordinating and developing informal and formal resources and networks in the communities where they reside and/or attend school.
  • Assist in orienting new youth and families entering the mental health system.
  • Work with service partners to ensure that standards relating to safety and inclusivity are maintained.
  • Promote greater youth/families participation in policy, program, and service delivery in the mental health system.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy standards of client protected health information and other applicable information in accordance to agency and center policies, and applicable regulations and laws, including HIPAA.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Schedule/Compensation

  • Full-time, non-exempt
  • Monday - Friday, 8 hours/day, on-site
  • $21-$23.10 Salary will commensurate with experience and education. Differential pay offered for bilingual skills. EEO.

Additional Requirement

  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation with a good driving record.
  • Willing to use own, properly insured, reliable vehicle for the job (mileage reimbursed).
  • Employment subject to clearances, including background finger printing checks, driving record, tuberculosis testing, and drug testing.

  • School based, through out North County Middle Schools and High Schools.
