Pipe Bursting Operator responsibilities include but are not limited to:

These individuals will be part of a crew involved in Pipe Ramming, Auger Boring, Pipe Bursting, and Tunnelling. Experience in these types of construction is a significant plus

Pipe Bursting Operator Responsibilities

• Install drain, sewer, and water lines
• Cut pipes to desired lengths
• Cover pipes with earth or other materials
• Grade and level trench bases, using tamping machines and hand tools
• Excavation in order to lay pipes
• Use of hand tools, digging equipment
• Drive truck with trailer

Pipe Bursting Operator Qualifications

• Experience in excavation including pipe installation, pipe bursting, and pipe relining preferred
• Able to lift up to 80 lbs
• Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe jobsite
• Proper operation of excavation equipment such as a backhoe
• Willingness to "get in the trenches" and expose lines by hand
• Utilization of basic tools as well as sewer cleaning equipment
• Professional demeanor when onsite to ensure customer comfort and satisfaction
• Must have knowledge of sewer systems, storm drains and water mains
• Must have experience with machine operated trenching tools
• Ability to read blueprints and city maps
• Must have experience replacing and laying new water/sewer mains, and open trench utility construction and trench-less pipe repair
• Replace and lay new water/sewer mains, and open trench utility construction
• Assemble and connect pipe systems for water mains, sewers and drains
• Inspect the ground, dig pipe trenches, and seal pipe joints with cement glue
• Present a professional image of Southeast Pipe Survey, Inc. to customers, fellow employees, and the general public.
• Assure that the work is of top quality in every respect.
• Know and adhere to all company policies and procedures.
• Know and adhere to appropriate OHSA regulations.
• Must be able to pass a DOT physical, drug test and driving record check.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. The ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before customers and other employees of Southeast Pipe Survey, Inc. and its sub-contractors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Candidate must have the ability to enforce problem solving policies.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

• Drivers License
• CDL Preferred
• Flagger Certification preferred

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

• Ability to operate equipment, including heavy equipment, forklifts, and bobcat.
  
• Skilled Laborer with 2+ years of experience in heavy civil construction.
• Applicants should have technical skills, including practical knowledge of heavy building, pipeline construction, layout, plan reading, and basic mechanics.
• A valid Georgia Driver’s License is required. A CDL driver's license is a plus.
• Other certifications, such as forklift training, OSHA 10 or 30 hr, Rigging/Signalman, HazWOper, etc., are also valuable.

The Field Support Technician must regularly lift or move up to 50 lbs. and occasionally lift or move up to 100 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the essential functions of this position, the Pipe Bursting Operator frequently works in outdoor weather conditions and in extreme heat and cold. Regularly works in wet or humid conditions and is subjected to vibration. Occasionally works in high, precarious places and is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
