The Opportunity:

The Warehouse and Safety Manager will ensure warehouse policy and procedures are followed, oversee the safety of the jobsites, warehouse and ReStore to ensure that staff and volunteers have a safe work environment. The proper course will be taken to keep staff and volunteers updated on the new safety protocols implemented at the job site, warehouse, and ReStores. The Warehouse Manager will align with Houston Habitat's Vision and Mission to build affordable homes. This will include ordering materials for the houses, delegating tasks, and/or delivering materials to their respective job sites. The Warehouse and Safety Manager will coordinate with the Construction Director to schedule the ordering of materials for the build site. Will ensure proper maintenance of vehicles and equipment for daily operations.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Safety

  • Responsible for safety program for Houston Habitat.
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal Worker's Comp/OSHA laws and regulations.
  • Promote safety awareness and cultivate a safety culture throughout the affiliate. Works cooperatively and harmoniously with supervisor, co-workers, and volunteers.
  • Trains and certifies all construction staff on forklift operations and safety.
  • Coordinate accident review meetings and other safety meetings as needed.
  • Oversee volunteer wall builds in the warehouse.
  • Track, report and submit timely incident reports.
  • Ensure a safe work environment by completing daily safety inspections, following health and safety protocols, and continuously working to improve the safety of our warehouse, build sites and ReStores.

Inventory & Fleet Management


  • Oversee and maintain daily shipping, receiving, warehousing, and distribution operation of the warehouse.
  • Assist and support the development of an inventory management system for tools, construction materials, and vehicles.
  • Track inventory and location of all tools, vehicles, tractors, and forklifts.
  • Tracks the use of all vehicles, tractors, forklifts, & tools
  • Coordinates the maintenance & repairs of all vehicles, tractors, forklifts, & tools, including PM of vehicles and equipment
  • Track registration and inspection dates of vehicles.
  • Oversee the pre-trip checklist of vehicles to ensure staff compliance.
  • Manage staff in the warehouse department to organize materials, vehicles, and tools to be delivered to different jobsites.
  • Responsible for distributing the tools from the tool container on the job site on build days.
  • Responsible for checking out and checking in all power tools, compressors, and generators from tool containers on the job site.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs of tools while on the job site to reduce downtime.
  • Receive and track inventory of all materials in the warehouse and at the job site.
  • Track all outgoing materials to the job site to ensure material is going to the correct job site.
  • Direct and assist in loading material and moving to the job site.
  • Notify the manager when inventory is low, items need to be ordered, and ensure that the company’s purchase policies are implemented.
  • Coordinate with vendors & suppliers to order material needed for the jobsite and warehouse.
  • Coordinate the use and maintenance of portable alarm barrels.

Facilities

  • Coordinate the maintenance and repairs needed for the main office and warehouse, including lights, a/c and a/c filters, plumbing.
  • Ensure the maintenance of the main office facilities are in compliance with building codes and safety ordinances.
  • Keep the yard organized, neat, clean, and safe.
  • Serve as house leader when needed.

Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.

Requirements:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED

  • 3+ years of warehouse management experience
  • 1-3 years of people management experience
  • A valid class C driver’s license
  • Forklift certification is considered an asset.
  • Experience using web-based platforms.
  • Ability to supervise and direct team members.
  • Collaborative team player and an ability to be “hands-on” while effectively managing the team and overseeing the department.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Good interpersonal skills and a sense of community service/helping others.
  • Upholds organizational values & follows policies and procedures.


PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand, squat, bend, climb, crouch, crawl, and use tools. Ability to reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions (hot, humid, rainy, and cold). Moderate noise level.
