Hours: Part time 20 - 25 hours per week Monday-Friday 2pm-6pm

This position is fully in-person and does not offer any remote work.

Salary Range: $30.00 - $30.00 per hour

Position Summary

Brooklyn Community Services is one of Brooklyn’s first and largest non-sectarian social services agencies. BCS, which presently serves more than 10,000 individuals annually, is committed to a broad and diverse range of services including education and child care; services to strengthen families; and services to foster self-sufficiency for adults.

Gary Klinsky Childrens’ Centers (GKCC) provide after-school learning opportunities to children from low-income families, who attend some of New York City’s lowest performing public elementary schools. The GKCC program is offered every weekday from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at five public elementary schools located in East New York, Brownsville and Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. The five GKCC centers serve over 700 elementary school children annually.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Site Director in leading day to day operations of a school-based after school program.

  • Assist the Site Director in ensuring consistent implementation of the thematic curriculum designed by our Elementary Education Specialist and DYCD program model.

  • In absence of the Site Director provide effective supervision of teachers, assistant teachers, and volunteer staff according to criteria set by Division Director.

  • Aid in planning and implementing clubs and field trips.

  • Participate DYCD, BCS and other training opportunities when schedule permits.

  • Assist the Site Director in managing and maintaining student and staff files in compliance with DYCD, DOH and BCS policy.

  • Aid the Site Director during the interview process as needed and following BCS’s Hiring Policy.

  • Assist the Site Director in the recruitment and enrollment of students and provide data entry support in order to ensure timely attendance and enrollment reporting in DYCD Connect.

  • Assist the Site Director in maintaining compliance with all DYCD, DOH, and DOE regulations.

  • Assist the Site Director and afterschool staff in the organization of parent engagement activities (i.e., Holiday parties, Celebratory Events, culminating presentations based on thematic curriculum, parent workshops, etc.)

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Associates degree in Education preferred depending on teaching experience.

  • Minimum of two years of direct experience working with children less than 13 years of age.

  • Some supervisory experience in a child care program or related field of work.
