Assistant Director Job Description


Reports Directly to Child Development Center Assistant Director

Summary: As the Assistant Director of our Child Development Center, you will be a key figure in ensuring the success of our daily operations. Your role will be diverse, including administrative tasks, overseeing educational programs, coaching teachers, orienting new families, marketing, fundraising, completing reports, and more. Your work will have a direct impact on the lives of our children, families, and staff, making your role crucial to our center's mission. 


Responsibilities and Duties

  • ________Assist the Center Director in monitoring and tracking the agency budget. 
  • ________Plays a crucial role in providing a safe and nurturing environment for children ________to learn and grow. 
  • ________Serve as liaison for parents with questions or concerns as necessary. 
  • ________Responsible for development, facilitation, and oversight of parent involvement activities.
  • ________Ensure student and staff files are current and up-to-date. 
  • ________As needed, supervise and advise staff regarding DHR, OSR, and GPCDC policies and procedures.
  • ________Receipt payments and update Google Sheets to reflect current fees. 
  • ________Contact parents regarding late payments and fees to ensure payment is made. 
  • ________Please inform the Center Director of any unpaid weekly payments and ensure written communication is provided and documented. 
  • ________Assist with Child Nutrition Program documentation and monthly claims report. 
  • ________Assist with Food Bank documentation. 
  • ________Assist in developing and conducting professional development.
  • ________Conduct observation of staff and students in classrooms and on the playground. 
  • ________Update center records and informational sheets. 
  • ________Administer medication (as needed) and according to DHR guidelines. 
  • ________Assume a leadership role when the Center Director is unavailable.
  • ________Obtain ServSafe Handler Certification and CPR/First-Aid Certification within the first 30 days of employment.
  • ________Display strong classroom management skills.
  • ________Knowledge of preschool curriculum and teaching methods. 
  • ________Experience working with children with mild special needs.
  • ________Ability to be engaged and connect with children ages 2-5.
  • ________Answer telephone professionally, take messages and assist guests
  • ________Ability to educate and inspire children through creative teaching methods. 
  • ________Supervise and monitor the well-being of each child in your care. 
  • ________Assist in the cleanliness of the center. 
  • ________Manage behavior and effectively use positive reinforcement techniques. 
  • ________Collaborate with teachers and center director to create a cohesive learning environment.  
  • ________Oversees employee relations and assists in creating a positive relationship. 
  • ________Participate in Child Nutrition Program training annually
  • ________Complete 12-24 hours of DHR professional development annually. 
  • ________Attend staff meetings and other required meetings/training.
  • ________Knowledgeable of DHR Standards and GPCDC Policies and Procedures
  • ________Assist in classrooms when needed
  • ________Assist with grocery and supply pick-up (as required)
  • ________Participate in events throughout the community to promote the child development center.
  • ________Coordinate Christmas Parade float and participants. 
  • ________Coordinate end-of-year celebration for Pre-K.
  • ________Demonstrate professionalism and good ethics and morals on and off the clock. 
  • ________Other duties as assigned


Physical Requirements:

  • ________Proof of a physical examination within the last six months, including a TB test. 
  • ________Ability to successfully pass random drug test
  • ________Lift to 50 lbs.


Educational and Experience

  • ________Minimum Associate in Early Childhood Education or Human Development and Family Services or CDA with five years consecutive experience at a Day Care of Early Childhood Facility with at least two of those years in a supervisory role. 
  • ________Minimum 3 Years Experience in Child Care Experience
  • ________Minimum 2 Years Experience in Manager/Supervisor Role
  • ________Minimum 2 Years Office Experience
  • ________Proficient in Google Docs, Google Sheets, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel
  • ________Basic knowledge using PosterMyWall or Canva


Salary and Benefits:

  • Full-Time
  • Hours: 40 Hours per week - Times Vary 
  • Center Hours of Operation are 6:45 am-5:30 pm
  • Hourly Rate: $16-$18 per hour
  • 12 Sick Days per Year (Accrual begins after 90 days of employment)
  • 40 hours Paid Vacation (Begins after six months of employment) 
  • Paid Federal Holidays 
  • Insurance Available at Employees' Expenses
  • Opportunity to earn bonuses when funding is available 


Background Checks:

  • ________ABI/FBI Background Check (Cost: $47.50) Employee will pay for their background check and be reimbursed after one year of employment).
