ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Responsible for the overall supervision and safety of youth on the overnight shift. Remain awake and alert during residents sleeping hours, making regular direct observations of the sleeping areas as well as the rest of the unit. Supervise youth, maintain order, and always exercise appropriate judgment (i.e., at breakfast, on the residential floors, in common areas, and during escorts). Assist youth in emergencies as directed by supervisor. Defuse physical and verbal confrontation with youth, using appropriate verbal behavioral de-escalation techniques.

Provide case management services including, but not limited to Intake, assessment, and discharge planning. Answer 24-hour telephone lines and properly provide crisis counseling, information/referrals, and intensive case management services utilizing the Transition to Independence Process (TIP) model. Job functions include, but are not limited to intake, assessment, discharge planning, and follow-up. Provide services that guide and advocate for youth in planning future goals and setting attainable objectives. Teach youth the required skills to assist with decision-making and establishing readiness to address barriers. Provide support, encouragement, and accountability to youth in their daily activities to fulfill their individualized treatment plan. Prepare youth and families for discharge so they can maintain and build upon their plan achievements. Ensure that case management services are in a culturally competent manner according to CHF's Mission, Principles, and Core Values.

Responsible for the overall supervision and safety of youth. Assist youth in emergencies as directed by supervisor. Defuse physical and verbal confrontation with youth served, using appropriate verbal behavioral de-escalation techniques and/up to advanced physical interventions. Must be certified and up to date in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training.

Assist youth and their families with the necessary community resources/referrals to advance youths’ plans, address legal obligations, and meet program requirements. Escort youth to court, school, and other appointments. Linking youth to CHF on-site services including therapeutic and health services, GED classes, residential substance abuse treatment, Job Readiness training, and Life Skills instruction.

Communicate pertinent information with staff and youth throughout each shift. Communicate respect, mutual support, honesty, and caring to all youth and staff. Take an active part in shift transition and provide vital information about youth and referrals.

Complete all documentation neatly and accurately (i.e., case records, incident reports, data entry, billing abuse reports). Ensure that documentation is completed promptly and meets the standards established by state license requirements, funding sources, and agency policies, including filing and tracking data for grant objectives. Utilize and monitor youth information in all applicable human service database systems including but not limited to ETO, SAMIS, HMIS, and JJIS.

Maintain a clean and safe environment. Assist and supervise youth in general cleanliness of all residential living and common areas. Ensure that work areas are clean and organized before, during, and at the end of the shift. Report all maintenance concerns to the Operations Department.

Drive company vehicles to escort youth to and from activities, hospital visits, school, and various other appointments, etc.

Must be able to occasionally exert up to 15-20 pounds of force to lift or carry. Must frequently move about both indoors and outdoors.

Serve in the capacity of Residential Administrator on Duty (RAOD) as needed.

SCHEDULE: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 10:30 pm - 8:30 am

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, counseling, criminal justice, or social work is required.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 1-2 years working experience required, experience working with youth ages 18-24 preferred.

SKILLS: Minimum of 2 years of experience working with adolescents with a history involving delinquency, substance abuse, domestic violence, or within the behavioral healthcare system. Demonstrated understanding of conflict resolution skills required. Must have demonstrated ability to maintain order and exercise appropriate judgment in crises, including the physical ability to intervene in critical or emergencies. Effective written, verbal, and listening skills. Demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to culturally diverse populations.

TRANSPORTATION: Valid Florida driver’s license and good driving record required

EQUIPMENT USED: Must be able to utilize basic word processing, email, and internet programs. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.


Due to licensing requirements, Covenant House Florida applicants will not be permitted to begin employment service until they have been cleared by a Florida and national criminal background search. All applicants for employment will be responsible for the cost associated with instituting background checks and will be eligible for reimbursement after 90 days of service.
