Washington County Water Conservancy District is looking for a full-time Project Inspector to join our team in St. George, UT. GENERAL PURPOSE  

The project inspector will provide quality control and assurance throughout all phases of Water District project construction beginning with conceptual design through construction and commissioning and integration in the District’s system.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED 

Works under the direct supervision of the Associate General Manager for New Project Development and will work closely with project development staff.


DUTIES AND RESONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in reviewing maps, plans and specifications for projects in development.
  • Provides input in project planning and system integration for future water supply.
  • Makes written construction reports, daily logs and construction photographs.
  • May coordinate materials testing to assure project construction quality control.
  • Compares results of inspections and tests to District’s standards and specifications; reports results to supervisor for final analysis and action steps.
  • Applies contract specifications and construction methods to determine any inadequacies or faults in construction.
  • Coordinate construction progress, adherence to project and contract specifications with Project Manager, Project Engineer and Contractor.
  • Identifies deficiencies and uses discretion to implement remedies with contractor and consults with supervisor and project development staff to determine appropriate recommendations and remedies.
  • Maintains appropriate records.
  • Attends planning, engineering, bid, construction, permitting, staff and other meetings. Participates and provides input as appropriate.

Education and Experience:


High school diploma or equivalent required or two years of related experience or training; or combination of education and experience.  College education in engineering, materials testing, construction management, business administration or other related fields is preferred.  Two years of experience in civil construction management or inspection is required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Applies basic skills and procedures appropriate for the position within assigned functional area.  Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations

  • Ability to read plans and maps and to understand and interpret specifications.
  • Ability to understand environmental permits and requirements and ability to implement requirements during construction.
  • Thorough understanding of water supply infrastructure projects and construction processes.
  • Thorough attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with professionals, construction crews, District staff and the public while remaining professional and polite.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software as needed to communicate, provide reports, file and access information and interact with other staff.
  • Must be able to operate a 4x4 pickup on roads and in challenging off-road conditions.


Special Qualifications:

  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and insurability under the District’s vehicle insurance policy.

Physical Demands:


  • Must be able to work outside in year-round conditions of extreme heat, cold and wind.
  • Prolonged periods standing.
  • Must be able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and lift to 50 pounds at a time.
  • May be required to work shifts matching contractor working hours.


Mental Demands:


  • While performing the duties of this position, employees are regularly required to use oral and written communication skills to read and interpret data, analyze, and solve problems and perform highly detailed work while meeting strenuous deadlines.
  • Must be able to observe construction conditions and identify key issues.
  • Must be able to deal with challenging construction issues and be able to solve construction deficiencies with job foremen, materials testing staff, construction crews and regulatory personnel.
