St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is seeking an Engineering Inspector for our well-established Public Works Division located in beautiful St. Augustine, Florida.

The St. Johns County Public Works Department maintains, preserves and protects the infrastructure resources of the County in the most efficient and effective manner possible. Public Works is made up of Engineering Services, Construction Services, Fleet Maintenance, and Road and Bridge.

Employees work in a team-oriented environment in a variety of divisions with two common goals in mind: to provide the best services to our citizens and to provide the best maintained infrastructure in North Florida.

The newly selected Engineering Inspector performs construction inspections to ensure capital projects and installations in County right-of-way conform to standards, codes, and specifications.

Examples of Duties:

- Reviews construction plans for compliance with ordinances and standards.
- Ensures contractors adhere to approved construction plans and specifications.
- Inspects construction and right-of-way projects and provides assistance as assigned.
- Coordinates inspection scheduling and attends meetings as required.
- Reviews final construction plans.
- Verifies project as-built locations and elevations.
- Reviews test reports for compliance.
- Monitors construction schedules.

Minimum Qualifications:

- High school diploma or equivalent recognized certification.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/ internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Must have the ability to complete advanced level inspector qualification courses for FDOT. Must possess and maintain the following certifications within two years of hire: Asphalt Level 1 & 2, Earthwork Level 1 & 2, Concrete Field Inspector, Maintenance of Traffic - Intermediate, Plans Reading and Pipe Placement.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
- Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills in order to serve others.
- Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
- Must be able to operate a computer.
