Job DescriptionJob Description

AEDD has an immediate opening for a Maintenance Technician providing maintenance at multiple facilities that provide an array of services for individuals with developmental disabilities. The facilities range from a large warehouse, office buildings and multiple residences within central Arkansas. Must be 21 years of age or older with a valid AR driver's license. A criminal record check and drug screen will be conducted. EOE/M/F

Hours: 40 hours per week; days and times may be flexible depending on need

Rate of Pay: $26.44 per hour ($55,000 annually); negotiable depending upon applicable certifications/licenses in areas of HVAC, Master Electrician, Master Plumber, etc.

Job Summary: Under limited supervision performs various jobs to the interior and exterior of buildings in the areas of general maintenance, repairs and renovations, both cosmetic and structural; carpentry; plumbing; masonry; minor electrical; and minor HVAC as needed for properties owned and operated by AEDD and CLS.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible for general maintenance, repairs and renovations to facilities related to: carpentry, plumbing, masonry, minor electrical restricted to replacing switches, outlets, electric burners, and light bulbs; and minor HVAC such as replacing air filters or thermostats.
  • Works closely with company sub-contracted electrician for all electrical related repairs.
  • Responsible for purchasing of related supplies seeking approval as necessary.
  • Will respond to Service requests in order of priority and will provide response regarding completion
  • Will work closely with departmental contact including maintenance personnel at SGSCLC.
  • Responsible for completing general maintenance throughout the facilities, both cosmetic and structural such as: replace light bulbs; replace broken tiles, painting etc.
  • Responsible for the solicitation and coordination of bids for outsourced company projects, for final supervisor approval.
  • Responsible for coordination and general supervision of related maintenance and repair contractors.
  • Will develop then coordinate and maintenance schedules in maintenance logs, such as the changing of air filters, HVAC service, etc.
  • Responsible for required modifications based upon Consumer needs related to physical disability and/or senior living.
  • Will serve on AEDD Safety Committee and coordinate applicable repairs.
  • Will identify areas of concern related to facilities in the areas of mechanical, structural, electrical, plumbing, etc. through safety audits.
  • Frequently required to drive for company business, while doing so will follow transportation policies and procedures including not texting while driving. Also, will be responsible for maintaining an acceptable motor vehicle driving report.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Safety Sensitive Position: Pursuant to the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment, the Maintenance Technician is classified as holding a "safety sensitive position." The amendment states, in relevant part, that safety sensitive positions include positions in which "a lapse of attention could result in injury, illness, or death, including without limitation a position that includes operating, repairing, maintaining, or monitoring of heavy equipment, machinery, aircraft, motorized watercraft, or motor vehicles as part of the job duties," or positions that require any of the following activities: carrying a firearm; performing life-threatening procedures; working with confidential information or documents pertaining to criminal investigations; or working with hazardous or flammable materials, controlled substances, food, or medicine. See Ark. Const. Amend. 98, § 2(25). All Maintenance Technician must refrain from reporting to work or being subject to duty while their ability to perform job duties is impaired due to the use of alcohol or other drugs. All Maintenance Technician are prohibited from testing positive for metabolites of substances that are listed in the schedules of the Federal Controlled Substances Act and the Arkansas Uniform Controlled Substances Act, regardless of whether the employee possesses a medical marijuana registry identification card. See id. at § 3(f)(3)(B)(iii). This policy applies during all work hours, whenever conducting business for AEDD. Any Maintenance Technician who possesses a medical marijuana registry identification card must disclose that fact to the Human Resources Department. Maintenance Technician who fail to disclose his or her possession of a registry identification card may be subject to discipline up to and including termination

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

While performing the duties of this position the employee travels by automobile and is exposed to changing weather conditions.

Travel: Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
