About the National Constitution Center

The National Constitution Center is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization devoted to teaching about the Constitution. Located on Philadelphia’s historic Independence Mall, steps from where the Constitution was drafted and signed, it serves as America’s leading platform for constitutional education and debate, fulfilling its congressional charter “to disseminate information about the U.S. Constitution on a nonpartisan basis in order to increase awareness and understanding of the Constitution among the American people.”

Position Summary

The Electrician is required to install and maintain electrical circuits, appliances, building systems, and related electrical controls and devices. Electrician must apply safety precautions that include, but are not limited to, safety regulations and procedures, chemical safety, hazard communication program, personal protective equipment, lifting procedures, back injury prevention, flammable storage, housekeeping, and fire extinguisher training.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Size and install conduits, conductors, switches, outlets and junction boxes (only non-energized equipment)
  • Install and disconnect lights, devices, and electrical panels; install motors and motor control circuits, install battery banks, battery chargers, and switch gear
  • Calculate power requirements for electrical systems including, but not limited to, conductors, protective devices, and physical protection
  • Perform periodic switch gear maintenance of relays and control switches; troubleshoot battery banks, battery chargers, commercial electric appliances, and grounding systems
  • Interpret plans, sketches, wiring diagrams, and specifications; identify all electrical terms and symbols
  • Construct basic electrical circuits
  • Compute voltage, current resistance, and power
  • Install and maintain low voltage controls and devices
  • Manage materials needed for installation and repair of a job
  • Solve problems using practical experience and analytical thinking
  • Work with contractors working in the facility
  • Have an understanding of life safety fire systems
  • Run snow removal equipment safely
  • Perform standard and custom electrical work for special events and traveling exhibitions as needed
  • Transport, set-up, break down, and install items, including, but not limited to, staging, decks, and equipment for events
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 2-3 years related experience required
  • Must hold all accredited certifications for the position
  • Proficiency in the use of standard hand tools, special tools, and shop equipment required
  • Proficiency in the use of electrical test equipment including, but not limited to, Megger, phase rotation meter, clamp-on ammeter, electrical multimeter, Infared scanner, and circuit tracer required
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply electrical fundamentals and principles required
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret electrical terms and symbols required
  • Must be able to read, understand, and perform work from sketches, drawings, and blueprints
  • Ability to work weekends, evening hours, or holidays as needed and assigned

Physical Demands

  • Frequent standing and walking required
  • Must be able to lift heavy equipment (50 pounds or more) on a frequent basis
  • May be required to work in a kneeling, stooping, bending, or prone position for a prolonged period of time on a frequent basis
  • Have far visual acuity, near visual acuity and peripheral vision
  • Climb ladders, scaffolding, steps and ramps safely and in a timely manner
  • Perform their classification duties safely
  • Work in outdoor weather conditions
  • Operate a vehicle safely
  • Have gross manipulation and fine manipulation of hands, tools and equipment
