JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Financial Analysis and Budget has responsibility for advancing the System's mission by planning and developing budgets and appropriate financial reports, which support decision making for the UA System Chancellor, Board of Trustees, and other UA System leaders. Reporting to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, the AVC is expected to be a proactive leader who works collaboratively with all levels of management.

Along with serving in partnership with the Senior Vice Chancellor as it relates to the general duties and responsibilities of the Office of Finance and Administration, the AVC will take the lead in providing an effective approach for the collection and accurate reporting of System-wide financial data as needed for the Board of Trustees and other entities to which the System is expected to report and in response to ad hoc requests that are directed to the Office.

Duties require comprehensive knowledge of principles, procedures, and practices specific to financial accounting to Higher Education and Healthcare institutions. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, practices and regulations is required along with excellent communication skills. Additional skills include the ability to exercise sound judgement in analyzing financial information and solving problems as well as the ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality. The AVC will serve as project manager for strategic Finance and Administration endeavors requiring the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently involving strict deadlines.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: institutional financial reporting and coordination of reporting; System Office budget preparation, management, and reporting; insurance trust funds; legislative appropriations reporting; planning, benchmarking, and monitoring; advice and consultation.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Master's degree;
  • 10 years of progressively responsible related experience;
  • Certified Public Accountant
  • In-depth familiarity with higher education finances, preferably from the perspective of a central administrative financial role.
  • Strong project management skills with ability to plan, coordinate and organize
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; keen attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and data integrity; the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community; a self-motivated and deadline-oriented professional who can anticipate the needs of busy executives and support a System that seeks to be on the cutting edge of higher education performance and effectiveness.
  • Direct knowledge of the objectives, financial structure and operations of major public universities, systems and state governmental entities;
  • Significant experience with demonstrated experience in high-level reporting to key institutional stakeholders
  • Ability to influence others; ability to plan and ability to forecast areas of strategic concern or opportunity, based on data trends and available metrics

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctoral degree;
  • Direct related experience in Higher Education or Healthcare Finance
