DEPARTMENT: Life Enrichment

REPORTS TO: Life Enrichment Activities Director - Coble Creek

POSITION TYPE: Full time position. Hours are 8:30am – 4:30pm (including every other Saturday rotation).

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for assisting in the planning and implementation of a recreation program designed to meet the emotional, social, spiritual, cognitive and physical needs of Healthcare residents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist the Director of Activities in researching and planning a variety of activities to meet the needs of a diverse resident population.

  1. Conduct and/or coordinate designated activities.
  2. Assist in the evaluation of the effectiveness and participation of activities and make any appropriate recommendations.
  3. Assist in the preparation and distribution of calendars, memos, and other supporting material relative to the Activities Department.
  4. Reports all unusual conditions, behaviors, and/or resident reactions to the appropriate Licensed or Management personnel in a timely manner.
  5. Adheres to all organizational, departmental, and nursing procedures in the performance of position responsibilities.
  6. Continually seeks opportunities to meet the residents’ psychosocial needs through both scheduled and spontaneous activities that support participant choice.
  7. Continually seeks opportunities to promote and improve the social needs of all participants through supporting and encouraging friendships and kindness to one another.
  8. Is active in the planning and organizing of large and small group activities making any necessary changes to assure successful results for all.
  9. Supports all aspects of the program and the environment, including pets, plants, children, visitors and volunteers.
  10. Assists in program record-keeping and updating required documentation.
  11. Must regularly communicate with supervisor and other staff, volunteers, family members and guests.
  12. Follows universal precautions, proper infection control, sanitation and safety standards of practice in all work and areas.
  13. Must attend organizational or departmental conferences and/or in-services as scheduled.
  14. May be required to perform other duties in keeping with the nature of this position which will not significantly alter the job requirements
  15. Demonstrate interest and commitment to work with a diverse senior population.
  16. Maintain and facilitate a caring, compassionate and understanding relationship with residents by answering all questions and concerns.
  17. Dress professionally an in accordance with the company’s dress code.
  18. Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant it using good judgement and ethical conduct.
  19. Able to perform job duties and work independently with frequent interruptions.
  20. Able to read, write and speak English in a cogent and professional manner.
  21. Able to organize, prioritize, and manage time, multiple tasks and projects.
  22. Capable of concentrating with large volumes of work and handle pressure.
  23. Possess the ability to maintain reliable on-site attendance.
  24. Able to work mandatory work days and mandatory OT as needed.
  25. Able to meet the physical demands and working environment of the position.
  26. Able to follow procedures.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Specialized training or experience in geriatric activities, social work or gerontology is desirable.
  • Two to five years’ experience in a skilled nursing or retirement facility is desirable.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Publisher)

Certificates, licenses, registrations:

  • Completion of the Activity Director course is required within 6 months of hire date
