TITLE: Outreach Specialist 

REPORTS TO: Media & Communications Manager

 

FUNCTION 

The Outreach Coordinator is responsible for community outreach. This individual is part of the Media and Communication Team and is responsible for outreach for PEERS, a peer-to-peer mental health non-profit serving the East Bay. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES  Outreach

  • Build and maintain relationships with individuals, Alameda County business owners, mental health professionals, faith-based communities, and medical professionals.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including those with lived mental health experience, family members, mental health providers, nonprofit organizations, and the broader community.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between PEERS and the community by conducting presentations, attending events, and partnering with community-based organizations (CBOs) and businesses.
  • Stay informed on culturally appropriate, recovery-focused mental health services and best practices for reducing stigma and discrimination.
  • Manage the PEERS Outreach Calendar, identifying and scheduling tabling opportunities.
  • Lead outreach activities, including presentations and participation in community events.
  • Maintain outreach materials (flyers, brochures, wristbands, pens) and reorder as needed.
  • Organize and coordinate PEERS' participation in community events.
  • Document and share updates from outreach activities on social media.
  • Respond to inquiries about PEERS programs and volunteer opportunities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Media & Communication Manager.

 

Administrative Duties

  • Research community events in Alameda County and nearby areas for outreach opportunities.
  • Submit applications and necessary forms, including Purchase Orders, to participate in community events.
  • Coordinate with staff to ensure they have all needed information and materials for outreach events.
  • Collect and manage data from presentations and events.
  • Import new contacts into databases like Mailchimp and Flipcause, maintaining an up-to-date contact list of CBOs and businesses.
  • Monitor and regularly report on outreach outcomes.


SPECIFICATIONS, QUALIFICATIONS, and COMPETENCY FACTORS 

  • Experience with lived experience as a person with mental health or a family member of someone with lived experience is strongly preferred. 
  • Commitment to PEERS Mission and Values. 
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Possession of a valid driver's license, auto insurance, and access to the use of an automobile as needed. 
  • Familiarity or willingness to learn Mailchimp, Canva, and Notion preferred 
  • Familiarity with the latest trends in social media preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with diverse populations.  
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently, and meet deadlines and expectations. 
  • Ability to keep information confidential in compliance with HIPAA
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills. 
  • Exceptional public speaking, presenting, and group facilitation skills. 
  • Computer literacy with strong competency in Google Workspace (Google Docs, Sheets and Slides)

 

WORKING CONDITIONS and JOB SETTING 

  • PEERS office is a standard office space on the second floor of a multi-story building, which requires an elevator for access. 
  • An environment with diverse populations routinely coming in for workshops or training.  Innovative, mental health consumer-driven organization with strong ties to the community. 
  • Periodic lifting of up to 25 pounds is required. 
  • Regular business hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with some weekends and evenings.
