Production Associate Lead

The Production Lead is responsible for knowing proper procedures and provides effective training to Production Associates to ensure productivity, quality and safety standards are met. The Production Lead partners with Production Management to optimize work flow through the plant and aides in cultivating a positive work environment for team members by encouraging team effort and supportive attitudes between workers.
Essential Functions:
- Monitors and expedites the work flow in the production area and makes adjustments when necessary.
- Receives and answers questions from Associates pertaining to production processes or equipment operation.
- Encourages teamwork and serves as a leadership resource to team members, providing knowledge experience, motivation, support and advice.
- Operates machines on production line to substitute for absentee Associates.
- Proactively communicates with Production Management on workflow concerns and offers solutions to resolve.
- Assists Production Management in setting targets and monitoring productivity and quality standards.
- Assists the Production Managers in monitoring productivity and quality standards.
- Promotes safety awareness by demonstrating all safety standards, ensuring compliance and escalates concerns to Production Management as needed.
- Ensures that general housekeeping standards are met prior to shift changes.
- Manages a clean and organized area to maintain HLAC standards and ensure that it serves as a “show place” for our customers and associates.
- Actively participates and supports continuous improvement initiatives; e.g. 5S, Standard Work, Hour by Hour and SQDC Boards.
- Trains Associates on all essential job functions of their assigned area.
- Promotes a positive work environment that is aligned with Nixon’s core values.
- Performs activities of Associates he or she is leading in a safe and efficient manner.
- Performs the duties of the Production Manager in his/her absence.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to operate machines at a high level of efficiency and effectiveness and maintain production requirements.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of email and basic computer skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others on a team and to demonstrate interest, skill and success in getting groups to learn to work together.
- Ability to demonstrate support for departmental and organizational changes that improve the company’s effectiveness. Shows openness to a new way of doing things.
- Good verbal communication skills with the ability to express oneself clearly in conversations and interactions with others and handle conflict in a professional manner.
- Ability to empower others and convey confidence in their ability to be successful, especially with new or challenging tasks.
Physical Requirements:
- Associates will be required to wear a uniform in accordance with the Company’s dress code policy.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) is available and will be required to be worn as the situation dictates.
- While performing the duties of this position, associates will be required to stand, sit and/or walk up and down stairs/steps repeatedly throughout most of the workday. Use of a computer may be required to generate reports, monitor production, and production information.
- When in plant, the incumbent is subject to the outside environment with possible exposure to extreme temperatures (heat, cold, humidity, etc) and precipitation. Exposure to dust regularly throughout the plant.
- Normal lifting of up to 75 pounds is possible. Mobility is necessary in order to perform assigned functions. Noise level is moderate to heavy as the work area is a production environment.
Required Credentials:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- 3 years of related experience and/or training.
