Emergency Veterinary Assistants

Our veterinary nursing assistants play a vital role on our team. Nursing assistants provide empathetic care for all of our patients and ensure a clean and organized working environment. All our nurses and assistants are team players but can work independently when needed. The following list is a brief overview of what you can expect to be doing here at EPVMC.
Supports clinicians and technicians throughout the euthanasia process.
Appropriately restrains feline and canine patients.
Compassionately, calmly, and gently approaches and handles patients.
Demonstrate proper use of hospital PPE; follows hospital standards.
Uses radiology software and assists with radiography using proper technique and PPE.
Able to assist with patient positioning for surgical and imaging procedures.
Uses practice management software (ezyvet) to maintain client and patient records according to hospital protocols. Communicates with owners effectively obtaining patient updates and relaying the clinician’s recommendations clearly and accurately for their skill set.
Able to set up intravenous fluids.
Ability to disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
Provides basic wound care.
Assists with providing nursing care to the hospitalization of basic/stable patients.
Report patient signalment, problem list, and plan during nursing rounds according to hospital protocols.
Able to obtain accurate patient history and follow the appropriate line of questioning during appointments.
Performs common in-house laboratory diagnostics.
Prepares supplies for procedures to be performed by technician or veterinarian.
Understands basic pharmacology of commonly-used oral medications, including handling, labeling, and dispensing. Transports non-critical patients for client visitation or discharge.
Set up oxygen cage.
Cleaning, sterilizing, and maintaining medical instruments. Clean treatment areas. Stocks of medical supplies throughout the hospital Unpacks medical supply deliveries Additional job duties as assigned
Hiring for day, mid and night shift assistants.
