Basic Function and Scope of Responsibilities:

A Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely driving and operating commercial vehicles and equipment for infrastructure construction projects. Equipment Operators must be able to think critically and use good judgement in order to detect, minimize, and eliminate hazards on construction projects. Equipment Operators must comply with safety and DOT regulations and are required to complete continuous training.

 

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate 2.5 CY, or larger, track loader on construction sites.
  • Safely operate main-line excavator on construction sites.
  • Safely operate dozer on construction sites.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment, correct and report deficiencies as necessary.
  • Adhere to company policies and safety procedures when operating equipment.
  • Monitor the operation of machinery to ensure safe operation on various grades.
  • Operate machinery to load and transport materials on job sites as well as onto trucks for transport.
  • Operate machinery to spread and level materials such as gravel, sand, and soil on job site.
  • Communicate with other team members to coordinate activities.
  • Report any accidents or incidents to management.
  • Keep track of job site materials and inventory as needed.
  • Assist with other tasks as needed.

Requirements:

  • Experience operating 2.5 CY, or larger, track loader.
  • Experience operating large main-line excavators.
  • Experience operating Dozers.
  • Knowledge and experience with GPS enabled equipment a plus.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, pipe crew and trench backfill procedures.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

 

Performance Requirements:

Knowledge:

  • Experience operating 2.5 CY, or larger, track loader, main line excavators, and dozers.
  • Ability to grade jobsite to shed water and maintain proposed elevations.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction site safety.
