Summary

Beacon Health System�s Wellness Performance Specialist work within an embedded medical model; working directly with high school students on-site at an assigned school. As a Wellness Performance Specialist, this position will work directly with School�s athletic programs and Wellness curricular classes in developing, facilitating, supervising, and providing education to students. Secondary duties may include seminar or special classes targeted to staff and/or middle school students to promote community and culture building.

Will perform Wellness Performance Specialist job responsibilities by:

Design, instruct, and supervise wellness curricular classes in the concentration of strength and conditioning with the collaboration of certified teaching staff.  Design, instruct, and supervise strength and conditioning programs for male and female student-athletes for in-season, off-season, pre-season, and for lifelong programing in a manner that reflects research-driven practices and the long-term athletic/fitness development model.  Work in collaboration with the sports medicine team and athletic training staff in the rehabilitation and strengthening of injured athletes by creating fitness routines to return students to play.  Facilitate a collaborative relationship among sport coaches, sports medicine, and other school administrative staff.  Assist with the maintenance of equipment and operation of the wellness center facility.  Develop systems for tracking student attendance and student progress in conjunction with coaches. Conduct an annual needs-analysis for each athletic program. Annually conduct and review a departmental risk management plan.  Complete an annual budgetary proposal for the wellness program that includes routine maintenance, purchase of new equipment, and staffing needs.  Coordinate programming and use of facilities with the Physical Education Department and the Athletic Events Scheduler.  Design and implement policies and procedures for the strength and conditioning program in accordance with the NSCA Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards Guidelines.  Work with the Athletic Director�s to develop offerings and programming to the community; that includes on and off-site opportunities back to Beacon Health System.  Maintain Confidentiality. Maintains appropriate documentation in the event of an injury and/or accident occurring in the wellness facility.  Follow other directives from the Athletic Directors, Principal, and Superintendent that serve to improve services to the students and patrons of the Elkhart Community School Corporation.  Coordinate a co-curricular novice level program exposure for grades 5 � 8 that serves as a strength and conditioning introduction reflecting research-driven practices and our country's Long-Term Athletic/Fitness Development Model.  Supervise and coordinate the strength and conditioning club-if established, which serves as a school to careers exposure and offers a student liaison opportunity to the athlete population.  Other duties as assigned.

ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:

Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared. Completes mandatory education, annual competencies, and department specific education within established timeframes. Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes. Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year. Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR), and other certifications as required by position/department. Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self. Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance. Complies with established organization and department policies. Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education & Qualifications:

Bachelor�s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field. The NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®) certification is required within the first 30 days of employment. Current standard first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillation (AED) certifications. Educational and work experience in a high school environment preferred. Maintains membership in local, state, regional, and national associations for profession.

Knowledge and Skills:

A strong working knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of strength training  Successful knowledge and experience in managing a physical fitness center. Abide by the NSCA Code of Ethics. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organization skills.  Proficiency in Microsoft and Google programs. Willingness to improve and/or develop job-related skills through professional development. Excellent time-management skills.  Excellent communication skills-oral, written, and interpersonal.  Detail oriented Excellent work habits, attendance record. Successfully passes and completes all criminal history and child abuse clearances. Evidence of ability to interact positively with students, colleagues, and the public. 

Working Conditions

Works in outreach settings Working hours will vary based on school schedules and may be outside of normal 1st shift hours. Able to deal with significant amount of stress, frequent interruptions. 

Physical Demands:

Requires the physical ability and stamina to perform the essential functions of the position. Including standing for prolonged periods and lifting of heavy objects.
