A few of the primary responsibilities include:
  • Provides excellent customer service to nursing homes and their residents by building relationships with staff and providers based on trust, cooperation, and understanding.
  • Create and maintain accurate patient profiles in TWRx computer system, including medication profiles, insurance information, contact information, allergy information, and any other pertinent information.
  • Assist pharmacists in processing medication orders, receiving payment from insurance carriers, adding cycle filled medications to the proper batches, printing the necessary labels, pulling products to fill the order, scanning NDCs to eliminate dispensing errors and receiving authorization from the pharmacist to continue filling when TWRx identifies allergy or interaction information.
  • Communicate with insurance carriers to obtain payment for prescription claim rejections and underpayments as necessary.
  • Communicate with prescribers and their agents to obtain refill authorization, prior authorizations, completing necessary documentation and follow-up.
  • Communicate with long term care facilities agents to meet and exceed their needs and expectations.
  • Maintain timely and accurate communication with the central fill site utilizing the Long Term Care Tracker system on the intranet.
  • Assist the pharmacist with filling and labeling prescriptions, including the cycle filled medication systems (i.e. OPUS, 30-day punch cards, NexPak).
  • Assist in checking in cycle filled medication exchanges from facilities, maintaining accuracy between batch and medication systems.
  • Assist in processing returned medications, crediting batches accordingly.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels, utilizing TWRxs Just In Time Inventory (JITI) management system, adjusting quantities on hand and min/max accordingly, as well as ensuring that all products entering and leaving pharmacy are recorded in JITI.
  • Order medications, nursing home and department supplies (i.e. prescription vials, baggies, cable ties, labels, printer ink, paper) as necessary.
  • Utilize the long-list on the intra-net to report over-stock and use inter-store transfers to order over-stock from fellow Thrifty White stores.
  • Receive and check in daily medication orders within a designated area, stock shelves, rotate stock to avoid outdates and maintain shelf labels, ordering as necessary.
  • Properly retain outdated medications, including their removal from JITI and return for credit, as well as flagging products that are close to outdating.
  • Identify and prepare stock balance returns by use of X-10 item movement in TWRx.
  • Assures RX hardcopy files are routinely checked, filed and signed when needed.
  • Properly maintain E-kits, billing for replacement products, refilling as necessary for the pharmacist final check.
  • Maintain neat, organized work areas to ensure accurate filling of prescriptions.
  • Maintain a well-groomed personal appearance in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Perform housekeeping duties within the pharmacy department as necessary to present a professional image of the pharmacy.
  • Participate in the Quality Management Program by reporting quality related concerns (dispensing errors, customer service issues, or operational issues) via the appropriate channels to ensure Pharmacy Operations is aware of the issues so they can be addressed. Reporting of events related to patient safety is mandatory. Failure to report such an event can result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
  • Change work roles and adjust to changing job responsibilities as required and perform all other duties as assigned.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and experience:
  • Be at least 18 years of age upon date of hire
  • Have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid Minnesota pharmacy technician registration (preferred- exceptional candidates may be hired as a tech-in-training)
  • Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) (preferred)
  • 1-3 years experience working in a pharmacy setting (preferred)
  • Must have the ability to have and maintain a clear record without exclusion, sanctions or debarments with the Office of the Inspector General at the time of hire and monthly thereafter.
  • Students who are planning to pursue future academic endeavors in the pharmaceutical arts (Pharmacist, pharmacologist, pharmacy technician, etc.) are strongly encouraged to apply.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Pharmacy medication order input experience
  • Comprehensive understanding of third party pharmacy benefit plan parameters, insurance and third-party payment systems
  • Knowledge of medication brand and generic names, medical supplies, medical terminology, pharmacy calculations and basic pharmacy practices, procedures and record-keeping principles
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with clients and associates at all levels of the organization
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and mathematics skills
  • Completion of HIPPA privacy and Methguard training
  • Ability to read and converse fluently in English
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and deal successfully with difficult personalities
  • Ability to maintain client and patient confidentiality and professionalism at all times
  • Ability to learn and implement new and changing technologies on an ongoing basis
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to represent the company effectively to external parties
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and active listening ability
  • Self-motivated, organized, attention to detail, strong work ethic and initiative-taking
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in general word-processing and data entry
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees, facility staff members, and providers (we are a closed-door pharmacy; the majority of your daily communication will be with the care team and co-workers)
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary
