The Lead Coach will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality soccer training and education to Preschool-5th grade players across various skill levels. This position involves coaching a team, leading practice sessions, mentoring other coaches and instructors, and assisting in developing soccer programs for a variety of ages. The Lead Coach will ensure that training methods align with J’s soccer goals and standards, providing a positive and productive learning experience for all participants. The J soccer program offers a variety of soccer sessions year-round that focus on fun, good sportsmanship, and convenience.


Schedule / Location

  • Part-time, evenings, and weekends
  • 10-15 hours a week
  • The J and various sites in the Johnson County area

Essential Functions

Instructional Leadership

  • Design and deliver engaging and effective soccer sessions for players of different age groups and skill levels.
  • Develop and implement age-appropriate training curriculums and drills that focus on skill development, tactical understanding, and overall player growth.

Coaching & Mentoring

  • Coach a team at practices, and games.
  • Supervise and mentor coaches, ensuring they adhere to J’s coaching philosophy and best practices.
  • Provide ongoing support and feedback to enhance the skills and effectiveness of coaching staff.
  • Foster a positive and supportive team environment, encouraging professional growth and collaboration among coaching staff.

Program Development & Evaluation

  • Collaborate with the Soccer Supervisor to develop and refine programs
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make recommendations for improvements
  • Organizes, supervises, and leads team practices and games


Requirements:
  • Experience as a coach
  • In depth knowledge of soccer, strategies, and its rules
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with players, parents, and staff
  • Ability to motivate and inspire young athletes, promoting a strong work ethic and dedication to the sport
  • Positive coaching philosophy and commitment to promoting sportsmanship and fair play
  • Transportation to various Johnson County locations for practices and games

Physical Requirements

  • Constant standing, walking and exposure to the weather outdoors
  • Frequent walking/running, eye/hand/foot coordination, talking and hearing to demonstrate and execute skills
  • Occasional lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs. to move equipment as needed
